Like the title says.... is it really worth it to go after the doubles/triples and Hazmat endorsement??? In Ohio, its gonna run me roughly $200 or more and money is tight! Discuss......

In my opinion, yes, but for me it depends on the location you are in.
Right now, I live near sacramento, ca and there are usually a decent amount of jobs where you wouldn't need either endorsement, but be prepared to look a little harder. In the next few weeks, I will be moving to Casper, WY. Seems like most class A jobs require both endorsements, and with out them I probably wouldn't have a shot of getting much of a job at all. Even alot of class B work seems to require a hazmat endorsement, as a matter of fact, my best paying job was doing residential propane deliveries in a class B truck. In the states i've had to take the CDL tests in it wasn't extra to add the double/triples, just the new $98 fee for the fingerprinting. Depending on where you are at, I would at least get the double/triple endorsement, it might open up a few more doors for you.

Well I might just go ahead and grab em then. Hell.... since I've got the book, I should just go ahead and read the entire thing a couple times and just hit up ALL endorsements at once to cut back on CDL reprint costs!

I would get all your endorsements. You never know what may show up down the road that pays really good or a company you like. You would hate to miss out on a great gig, by not having doubles, or hazmat. Especially hazmat, since it can take a while for the background check to come back. We've had drivers, who had the job, but had to wait 6 weeks on the hazmat check to come back, but by then the positions were filled by drivers who showed up with hazmat already on their license. You can't expect a company to hold a job for you, while you get qualified for the position.

Well I know just by having my Hazmat endorsement at Barr Nunn I got paid more per mile just by having it, it didnt matter if I carried a Hazmat load or not i got paid a few cents extra per mile more than those that didnt have it, thats adds up over a year, so yes having the endorsements can be worth it depending on who you work for. Even if you dont get paid extra per mile, it can help you get more loads than a guy that doesnt have it if you work for a company that hauls a lot of the stuff.

I'd go for it, while it can seem like a hassle it will pay off with more options later on.
Most everyone in LTL land requires HM and Wiggle Wagons. I know my barn sometimes will hire someone as a casual dockworker while they wait for their HM to clear. It usually takes 2-4 weeks but I've seen it take up to 10.
