Default What to expect during Orientation

Thank you all for your help in my other posts! I have one other question to ask....Generally, what can I expect to happen to me during orientation, aside from the drug, physical exam?

I just got back from a orientation tonight

First day I had to do a short drive through town with a instructor from their school. (I went to a different school) If the instructor signed off you were sent for a physical and drug test. The rest of the day was spent filling out paperwork.

2nd day was spent watching movies........proper backing, turning a corner, weather conditions, mountains, shifting, etc. Was a very boring day because the movies were the same ones I had seen in school just a couple weeks ago. HazMat training

3rd day was the rules of hours of service, how to fill out your logbook properly. How to use the Qualcom, the canned messages, etc. How to interpet your loads off the Qualcom. How to use the fuel cards and where. How to use the Comchecks and where. How to properly use the reefer unit. Defensive driving techniques...3hrs of listening and movies.

4th day was a 100 mile drive with a instructor from their school. They had the final say if you were hired or not.

Great! Thank you for the info. My recruiter never mentioned anything like this. All that was told to me was background info and drug test, then I'll be going out with a trainer for 6 weeks.

I'm much more informed now

While specifics vary from company to company....at most any orientations you can expect:

Lots of paperwork
Lots of safety videos (bring no-doze)
Physical
Drug test
More paperwork
Road test.

Don't forget the "company physical."

There were eight of us in orientation and the safety director had us all line up and face the wall and drop our pants in the hall outside his office door.

Next we heard..."OK men, bend over and spread'em!"

What really bothered me, was I only heard him snap on a rubber glove ONCE.

No "Safety Director" is having me do that.....unless he is able to show some sort of medical certificate.
