Default CB recvs, but evidently does not xmit - help

I just installed on a different truck a CB that I know was working fine about a month ago. It picks up on the receiving end just fine. The xmitting side is having a problem. When I key the mike the little light for xmit goes on, but people are evidently not hearing anything when I talk.

Any ideas?

Had that happen a couple years ago, took the mike apart and 1 wire (apparently the one that carries the sound signal to the radio) was broken.

Just as you said, the TX light would come on, but the radio was transmitting a dead carrier.

Carefully soldered the wire back together and all was well.

Have you had the mike dangling by the cord frequently? I believe that's what caused the problem in this case.

You probably have done this already, but make sure your mike gain is up to at least half. And also the rf gain knob turn it all the way up. And turn your squelch down. If you are still having problems. I would check to make sure your SWR is low. You want to try to get at least 1.5 on the swr. If none of that works you have something wrong with your mic, or radio. BOL

Also check this site out, they are good for radio info

That was happening to me also until someone told me to shut up and that they were sick of hearing me talk. I was ready to replace my radio and thought I had the same problem as you.

what kind of radio you got there ????, like before try turnin up the mic gain knob, rf gain is for recieve and does not affect xmit ...... if not try another mic.... or you can go to a shop unless you own a swr meter with a modulation scale and can see your modulation.... if no modulation it can be in the mic or the radio and it will need to be checked out by someone who knows, something simple like a wire came off the mic plug inside the radio but I doubt it since it worked fine in other truck.. try parkiing next to another truck with a cb on and key up and see if you can hear yours..... check your knobs , does it work ??, you might of been trying to talk to people with a linear amp and you can here them but they are too far away for them to hear you.... I think its the simple things to check first....

Also check and make sure your coax is firmly screwed in. I had that happen once and while I could hear just find I was having big problems getting out. Tightened things up and all was fine.
