At 18, you are probably not mature enough to drive OTR, with all that it entails. That is WHY they have a 21 yr old requirement. (not that I consider THAT old enough, either!) Let me suggest that you find a company there in Seattle, with a UNION shop. Work the docks for a few years (which I understand is a requirement anyway to get into a teamster driving job,) and learn the ropes and pay your dues. You might get a chance to be a yard jockey or something along the way. Point is.... when you finally attain the required age, you will have the required years of union membership in, and you MIGHT walk RIGHT into a union driving job paying MORE than MOST of us make! I might be way off base. I didn't go that route. But, maybe you should "run the idea" by someone you know and trust. Let me know what they say. Best of luck! Your time will come!

You may also want to check with local delivery companies. There are usually local businesses, such as office supply and furniture companies who need people to deliver locally. Most will have a straight truck. Your options will usually be somewhat limited until you get a little older.

Well i started driving tri axle dump trucks when i was 18. But my dad is a o/o and knows alot of people so it took his good word to get me a job at 18. I was pulling a 20 ton tag along also. It can be done maybe start out as a laborer and try to move your way in a truck.
