Any Crete/Shaffer drivers out there?
I was trying to find out how many miles you guys are getting in the OTR division? Is there a major difference between the dry van and reefer divisions? Thanks,
Ryan

when I worked for Shaffer, I talked to a lot of drivers for both divisions, the regional drivers seemed to get a lot more miles with Crete, the national drivers got about the same (3000) a week average or so they all said. another major difference is the dry freight is about 2000 percent less pain in the rectal area.

Was it good when u were there? Did they treat you well? What states did you see the most? What is the lenght of haul like? Shaffer pays .01 a mile more than Crete. I've decided that that this is probably where I want to be, I've heard good things about Crete on this bored, just trying to find out a few specifics. I don't mind the extra work involved with reefer. Crete says they are 75-80 percent drop and hook but Shaffer doesn't say anything about that. Any more info? Thanks,
Ryan

Well it all depends on who you ask. I'm an o/o for Crete but the miles are the same as when I was a company driver. You can easily turn 2800-3500 per week at Crete. A fellow Crete driver on here just got 4042 in one week! If you aren't getting paid $ then something is wrong. I'd seriously reconsider pulling a reefer, but that's just my opinion.

Exactly. Reefers have less drop 'n hooks, trailer washouts, jump starting the reefer in the freezing cold, fueling the reefer, taking temp every 2 hours, grocery warehouses  should I keep going?

Well I came out of the house on the 8th. I've ran from IA to GA, from GA to TX, from TX to UT, UT back to TX

I'm guessing that is pretty dang accurate. Crete has a large freight base with large customers. I love Kimberly CLark and Wal-Mart (DC) loads myself.
Let me know if you have more questions.

Re: Any Crete/Shaffer drivers out there?
Thanks. That's what I was wanting to here, that people can really get good miles there. at .41 a mile and paying practical miles i should do great there. Also sounds like they are a good solid company and treat their drivers well. Only reason I'm waiting until August is that if you have less than one year experience you have to go out with a trainer for a month.

They can let you go out solo sooner if they feel you're capable, but I'm not sure if you'd get the .41 cpm.

They were some of the nicest people I ever worked for. I was S E regional and I didnt get enough miles to suit me. the other drivers in the division had the same problem, they said it started when the new dispatcher came in, I understand he is no longer there. I never heard any complaints from the national drivers. the drop and hook is more like maybe 40 percent unless things have changed. It's been a few years since I worked there.
All lumpers are paid, or you can do it yourself and make a few extra bucks, but they will pay lumpers a lot more than they will pay you
