When I worked in the lab there was a scientist Dr. Krishna Mandel from India who I was friends with. One day I asked him what town he lived in and he said Ashland, Mass only he didn't say Ashland, he said "Ass Land". I completely lost it and brought other people around to ask him the same question.

Well, about a week later at lunch he came in and his wife was with him. She came in to tell me that Krishna was so upset about not being able to pronounce the sound "sh" that he practiced all weekend on every word he could find with the "sh" sound in it. Krishna is such a good guy, he wants only to fit in like the rest of us and would constantly ask me questions about this and that with regards to American ways.
Funny story, and I'm NOT calling B.S.., but........

How does a guy named KriSHna, from India where KriSHna is (I believe) the main deity, and SHiva is a lesser god, NOT be able to pronounce the "SH" sound?

Must be his Yankee ACCENT!!

Ya know, your right and I do plan to send him email. In fact, I think I'll cut and paste your response.

It has nothing to do with an accent, every president from the south can speak correctly, Martin Luther King could, Jessie Jackson could. WTF, why does half the country come up with there own language? English is English and taught the same in every single state. The is pronounced the, not duh.

I was in a Wendy's in the south once and had to get the manager to take my order. I have no f%&^ing idea what language the person was speaking.
