Default who will give me a second chance

I went to school through swift, was 6weeks out with their trainer then had my own rig for 2 weeks when they terminated me for omiting something about my past on my application... My recruiter and processor both said that it had been long enough ago not to put it down (this is what i get for listening to them) i dorve for a month for a local guy hauling srap metal to various sites in the state...when he decided that i did not really have enough experience and terminated me before something worse happened (than the truck motor dyeing because he refused to have it fixed untill it completely broke down even though one of the headgaskets was leaking) that was back toward the end of october of 2006 and i haven't been able to find work since... my dac report is clear i have checked it and so is my license... is there a company out there that will take me and let me get the experience i need to drive or do i need to wait untill the 10 years is up on the thing that got me terminated from swift and go back with them????

I'm sure you realize that, the only way anyone here can advise you, is if you tell us just WHAT it was that you omitted in the first place!

Well, I'm not a recruiter, and I hope one or two of them will come on here to answer you.

You say your DAC is clear? Then Swift didn't mention anything negative about WHY they terminated you? Then you HAVE your training (free I hope) and your CDL.

Start checking with SMALLER to medium sized companies. They don't do the in depth background checks that the majors do. If you weren't convicted of anything (especially a felony,) and the particular company's application doesn't ask a specific question that would require you to "own up," then MUM IS THE WORD.

I hope that your problems from 1977 are completely behind you! If so... I believe you probably CAN get a chance in trucking. You may have to work hard, and look everywhere, but it may not be that difficult. There are companies out there who hire ex-felons. It seems there should be some that will hire you.

Good luck. BTW.... where do you live?

There are many companies that will hire people right out of school. Mine did. DON'T list the company where you only worked for a month! If Swift is not badmouthing you, make up a good reason why you were terminated so soon, and put that on the application (make it believable.)

Many companies know how SWIFT and a few other operate. They MAY not necessarily hold it against you that you were let go so soon.

Take a drive around your area, on the interstates. LOOK for the signs on buildings that say, "HIRING drivers." Go in and ask them. It may not be the best job to start, but it will get you going in trucking.

I wish I could help you more. I don't really know all about the many companies, where they hire from, their policies, etc. Do some googling and get a list of all transportation companies in your area. Start calling. Don't give a HINT of an attitude about your experience with Swift! Just say it didn't work out.

You might try Cal-Ark or Maverick. They are nearby you. You just have to keep trying! If you want to drive a truck (and you allready HAVE the CDL and training,) I'm SURE you can make it happen.

WE can only advise you. YOU HAVE TO DO THE LEGWORK.

You might also PM Sheepdancer. Even if HE can't help you, he might be able to advise you better than I can!
