hi, last year was our first year out on the road. now it's tax time and i am using a computer software program to file our taxes. can anyone tell me what form i need for the money spent while out on the road? or what the daily amount the irs allows and the form or website to get this info? i've spent some time on the irs website and i'm still lost.

Just my 2 cents but I've leared the hard way. Go get a reputable former IRS worker who now does taxes. I get a 1099 and did my own taxes last year because I was a cheapskate and a 'smart guy' , I can figure this out, Mistake. After I did them I owed thousands, after he did them I owe hundreds an saved an enourmous amount of money. His fee of $350 was money well spent and I'm far less likely to get audited.

If you use H&R Block's software...it will run you through the process and will ask you questions...give the answers in total $$ for each category. It will fill out the forms for you.
If you are itemizing....you need to do a 1040 long form and depending on your deductions you will be filling out Schedules C, D and others. If you are not up to doing this take all of your stuff to someone and have them do it fast....you haven't much time to get it postmarked before they get you with a penalty. If you use software....make sure you answer the question YES regarding your being subject to HOS.....makes a huge difference in the per diem allowance %. And if you have someone else do your taxes....make sure they know that you are subject to HOS.
