What all is involved getting your passenger endorsement? The lady at the DMV said I would have to test in a bus, which seems silly, since I have had my CDL A for 12 years, and have all other endorsements. We just got a new bus at church, 45 passenger, and I would like to be able to help out, just wondering how hard it is to get the "P" on the license. I can pull triple gasoline tankers, by taking a written test, but have to retest to drive a bus?

yes that is correct, you have to drive a bus and pass the test to hual people around you have to know how to operate a bus, there is alot more than you think, they are different than a tractor trl set up... plus you have o show theem you can stop 25 feet before the train tracks and open the door and look or you will fail the test, there is more safety involded with a passenger endorsement than you think, its easier to get a hazmat...

first question i have for ya, you know our trucks have a red and yellow knob on the dash for them brakes , a bus does too, but what does the blue knob do ? better start with the handbook they give out at the DMV, then go do written test and drive the church bus for the driving test....

most bus drivers train for 6 months , not like us with 6 weeks...

Study passenger sections in handbook. take written test. Pass written test. Find bus to take road test in. Make appointment for road test. Practice pretrip on bus. Arrive for roadtest. Take roadtest. Pass roadtest. Reprint license. Now have Passenger endorsement.

It's the same way for school bus. They have slightly different rules to follow, being the cargo is much more precious. They just need to make sure you can take people from point a to point b safely.

To get my passenger endorsement, I took my road test in a school bus. The secretary at the driving school I attended told me to take in the school bus cause you will get BOTH school bus & passenger endorsement. If I would have taken it ONLY in a motorcoach I would ONLY get the passenger and not the school bus endoresment. Due to the fact I took it in the school bus I got BOTH endorsement. So I killed 2 birds with 1 stone. I have a class "A" with all endorsement except tow truck. Might get that sometime in the future. Im in the process of becoming a corrections officer so I would need a school bus endorsement.

A buddy I drove transit bus with here in Michigan started driving school-bus here recently. He already had passenger/airbrake B license, but had to go through maybe a weeks worth of training to get a schoolbus endorsement.

In New York, YES. In any other state I do not know. The tow truck endorsement is a (W).

I have a passenger endorsement in New York but since I didn't take it in a bus I can only carry up to 7 passengers, so basically it's useless except for maybe a limo or something. Yes New York has a tow truck endorsement. I don't have it yet but have been thinking about getting it just to have it. Maybe a part time job or something.

You are right PA dont have one. ANd you have a Metal Coil one. LOL next your going to need one for a lift axle. :roll:
