Default Advice on Contacting a Recruiter

After fielding MANY phone calls from new and experienced drivers alike, I thought posting some "tips" on how to contact a company recruiter would be in order.

when calling recruiters.. always work from a list and always write down the name and check off the questions when asking them. Don't slam the recruiter for not having instant answers, they might not know the answers. Give them the opportunity to get back to you with answers to specific questions. Sometimes they are not even drivers or ever have been! They are sometimes basically salesmen who read and regurgitate off of scripts. Just get the info you want and move on to the next company for their answers. compile all the companies and then decide..

    Good advice.
I cant count how many applications I get with a wrong phone number or other mistakes.
Occasionally, I get applications where they obviously didnt read over it before they pressed "send" Things like 5 DWI's or they have even checked "yes" on felonies when in fact they didnt have any. Personally, I will call every app I get just in case there was a mistake. However, I know recruiters that wont call those apps. Those kinds of mistakes would surely limit your job offers.

Here's another thing to consider when filling out an online app....your e-mail address. If I get an app with an e-mail like Ibangedyourmom@(EDITED).com, you ain't getting a call from me. Yes, that is an actual e-mail address, one among many very innappropriate ones that we have received over the years. If you're applying for a job, make sure your e-mail address isn't going to offend someone that actually will be considering you for a job.

    Default Excellent Advice

I'm currently in e-mail conversation with "Jen" from TMC. As to the advice from earlier - I'm working off from a list of questions I have come up with over the past month.

As I realize that she is extremely busy, I don't count on her getting back to me right away,(sometimes she has). But she gets me and answer when she can , then in return I forward her somemore.

I think I'm getting 2 things out of this......

    1. There is no pressure on either one of us.
    2. I can research some of the answers (which she has been dead on with)

Since I recieved my "Pre-Hire" card this past weekend, I'm with in a few days of joining on with TMC......

How about these? You ever get an app and you call them, get their voice mail and the message is about 5 minutes of profanity laced gangster rap?

Yep, I've gotten a few of those, too. Then, there are the really good ones. Had a recent one where the guy does John Wayne on the answering machine. He was really good, too. Those always bring a smile.

only slightly off topic.. we had a guy apply to work here and his MVR was three pages long. He asserted that he only had two tickets while in a commercial vehicle so he didn't think the others mattered and that there should be fewer points because he took traffic school to get rid of two points..

The tickets were some real doosies! 36 mph over the posted limit?
