Default training info

I want to get into the trucking industry but I am curious on what the pay is for a newbie driver in orientation. Do you get paid by the mile or a salary style? I am sure it varies between companies. I am looking to try to get into swift or celedon. I am also up for other company suggestions.

You do not get paid while in trucking school.

You do get paid during on the job training. At most companies this works out to around $359-$400 per week gross. Some are salary during OTJ and others pay by the mile. The ones that pay by the mile push very hard for the truck to run as a team ASAP which allows for very little training.

You might give CFi a look.

I might recommend reading up on Swift a bit more before you sign on that dotted line. I've heard Schneider National or CRS might be better training companies for someone to start with...

Good luck!

I'm just finishing up my four weeks of training with Star Transportation. They pay by the mile. Training pay ain't great at 14cpm, but they pay for what the truck runs, not just what you drive yourself, and between my trainer and I we ran about 3500 miles per week. After tomorrow I'll be on my own and my milage will probably drop to more like 2400-2800/week, but I'll go to 30cpm.
