It is possible but there are a lot of variables to determine what you make each week. cents per mile. Miles you get and where you live. I've only been driving for 7 months and ended up getting a good dedicated route. Home Tuesday, Thursaday, Saturday, and Sunday. Make $0.29/mile. Run 2921 miles a week. Claim 5 dependants (myself included). Take the per diem option and take home $738.43.

Remember that home-time does not equal home-life. Decent pay does not include decent home-time no matter how you cut it.

I hear ya! What my father and I do is stay out 6 weeks, then take a full 7 days at home. That way it seems like a vacation and you can afford to be home. I don't like being home if the bills aren't paid. If the wife thinks we are low on money, time spent at home is better spent on the road. (see: peacefull) This schedule works best for us because CFI pays every two weeks. So after putting 3 checks in the bank, one week off doesn't hurt too much.

Go with someplace that lets you take the tractor home, notice I didnt say trailer. Companies like TMC attach that trailer to you like some dead siamese twin. You take it everywhere, which means you have to find a place to park it, or park it at a domicile and get your own transportation home.

With Schneider, I get rid of the trailer and take the tractor home. Add to that, I get home every two to three weeks.

Hehehe a dead Siamese twin! I like that one.
True, you have to keep the trailer and tractor together but their reasoning is because they send you home loaded and so want the valuable load as secure as possible. Coming home loaded also means you can leave out later after your weekend is over because you don't have to load first before your first delivery.
You CAN split them IF you have secure parking for the trailer and get approval for the location from the safety department. Then you can bobtail home and park the tractor in your yard.
TMC will DEFINITELY be able to get you home at LEAST every other weekend if you fall outside their hiring line for home every weekend drivers. This is their long-haul division. The plus to longhaul is better pay, more drop and hook loads and less tarping.
Good Luck.

Thats the problem with most major carriers, not just TMC or Schneider but the vast majority of carriers cannot guarantee weekly if you live outside the shipping lanes.

I live 30 mins from I-10 and even though most carriers run I-10 apparently if you do not live right on the interstate, hometime weekly, is in doubt.

If you want to get home more frequently, you may check to see if there is a place you can park your truck near the interstate and have someone pick you up. Or you could possibly keep your car parked where you park the truck. Some companies or truck stops may allow you to do that. Some may charge a fee, others may not.
