Default Checkin' in

Hi folks,
Well, after my fiasco with Swift, I ended up driving school bus for awhile. I actually trained longer than I drove for them. No money, crappy schedule.
I happened to run into my CDL School recruiter and told him what I was doing. His reaction was, "hell, we can get you something better than that!"
He was as good as his word and a week and a half later, I was in Covenant's orientation in Dallas. All went well and I was the only guy in a class of 17 or so, that had no paperwork snafus!
I went out with a pretty good trainer in a nice, one year old Freightliner.
We ran from coast to coast in the 3 weeks I stayed on the truck.
I discovered that my night vision is not what it once was, and after driving several night time shifts, I found that I just wasn't reading signs from far enough away to safely maneuver the truck. The problem started to manifest itself on my day vision too. Sooo, for the sake of safety, I left the truck in Albuquerque and got a ride to the other end of the state where I live. It looks like over the road driving is not something I'm able to do. This danged getting older isn't what it's cracked up to be.
I'm now working for a local Limo/Taxi company for a fair hourly wage and lots of long days. My runs are carrying medicaid patients to and from Dr. appointments and the like. It's not a very prestigious job, but the boss is great, my co-workers are supportive and helpful and I'm making enough money to stay happy.
Funny how things turn out, eh?

The big wheel keeps on turnin'

Pardon me for sounding ignorant, but do you wear glasses and is your prescription "fresh"? BOL

just like the previous poster said, have you got your eyes checked? I see fine have good vision but had the same problem at night seeing signs correctly. Went to the eye doctors and have a stigmatism. He said that it should help for driving at night and guess what he was right.

So true. One day I was playing golf and put on someones glasses, jokingly. And I'll be damned if could the flag perfectly clear. For years I was walking around half blind and didn't even know it. For anyone that doesn't get regular eye exams I always recommend they get one.

Yep, the prescription was fresh just a few months ago when I was still in school.
I am, however, beginning to wonder if there is varying quality in plastic lenses or not. My old glasses, despite a small change in the prescription, seem to work better at night than the new ones.
Also, as one who had some eye surgery as a youngster, my sister suggests that I see an opthamalogist verses an optometrist. She maintains that they are better able to help those of us who are post surgery folks.
I guess that I'll look one up one of these days and see if he can tell me anything different than the optometrist did.

Subtle changes in vision could also mean you might be developing diabetes.

This isn't really for the original poster but when getting your eye exam
make sure you spend lots of time getting the prescription right.
I drove the person at Wal-mart vision center a little nuts but I never had a problem with my glasses since.

Let them flip thru all the little lenses till you see GREAT not just better.
It's your money and your eyes.

If you suspect the lenses are incorrect or poor quality take them back or take them somewhere else and get them checked. It's your eyes and your money.

From what the original poster stated about the lenses MAYBE being poor quality it's like he let them put himself out of a possibly decent job. It's your wallet that is suffering not theirs.

ever thought about lazer surgery, these days they can cut, shape and even put new lenses in your eyes and you will have 20/20 or better without glasses...... they are more advannced now than 10 years ago with shaping the eyeballs and lens replacement.... and it takes about as long as a eye exam... something to think about unless you like wearing glasses...
