my vote would be to spend the bucks and do it right. your not going to get out there much for weather and bears with a stock 4 watter. However grab a simple Cobra (29 Nightwatch is a classic) and have some "peak and tune it" to a decent ant., like a wilson and your golden, pop out there nicely when you see nothing but road in the middle of the night.

I bought a Cobra 150 and opened it up to 70 watts or so, anymore and I pop the power feed from the truck and then have to upgrade fuses, etc. Not worth the fuss to go bigger. If and when it's time for an OTR setup it'll be like some of these posts. Galaxys are top end, some of our drivers drop a 1000 bucks on a setup, I find that a little much. Couple hundred no big deal.

I must have been doing something wrong. I had two stock Uniden PC78XLs. One in the big truck had a pair of Wilson GFT Fiberglass Antennas 4' and in the PU is an old Radio Shack center-loaded antenna. I've never wasted my money on having them "peaked and tuned". I did have a cold solder joint re-soldered on one radio. It is no problem transmitting and receiving out to 8-10 miles at night over normal terrain.

I vote for the 25 NW by Cobra. WIth stock antennas I got about 10 miles of reception.

A friend of mine recently went solo. He thought he should get a galaxy cuz his trainer had a galaxy.

I told him to buy the Cobra, and if he didn't like it to return it. He bought one and is very pleased.

I heard Galaxies were good radios. So, I looked around, and found GI Joes. I got my Galaxy for $175.00 I thought that was a pretty good price, compared to other places.

The biggest thing with trying to get a "BIG" radio is all the other stuff you have to buy....such as....Cowboy boots, spurs, big belt buckle, Cowboy hat and last but not least, the bigger the radio the smaller you brain capacity has to be.

You watch to many movies, speaking about brain capacity, have you figured out that a driver is responsible for his own actions YET...lol
I will dog you until you admit a company doesn't make you do anything, you make yourself do what you do!!!!! A man needs to stand up and be responsible for himself, PERIOD!!!
This might be why your screen name is Dollarshort...lol

Speaking of radios, anyone on here run an RCI? My buddy runs an RCI 2950 and he seems to think it's the best thing since sliced bread. I must admit it's a nice radio, but I was just curious if anyone else around here runs one?

One thing you need to consider is the actual size of the radio if you want it to fir in the overhead CB compartment on some trucks. I know my Galaxy 959 will not fit in the overhead of a Volvo and just barely fit in a Century.
