CB radio, several pairs of good gloves, decent coveralls, comfortable steel shoes of some type, cooler is good, real fridge is much better, biggest quality inverter you can afford if the company allows them. Possibly a microwave if the company allows an inverter big enough to power it.

Are you going to be in training with another driver or basically going straight into a truck.
Either way these items are pretty much universal: Coveralls (suggest both insulated and uninsulated) Good quality work gloves Work boots (steel toed) hard hat safety glasses If in your own truck I suggest a strap winder. If you are a company driver the company should provide all other needed equipment like chains, binders, straps, etc.

Shoes - In most cases you gotta have the safety (steel toed) shoes. You'll also want at least two other pair (tenny runners) so you won't have to be in wet shoes or socks when you get your feet wet. Ditto with gloves, cotton and leather work. Check Wally World, Lowes, HD, any place but a truck stop (too expensive). Many metal shippers require long sleeve work shirts to make the pick up. As far as hardhat and safety glasses, many companies provide them to a driver but they also dock the driver's pay. BOL

Everything except the strap winder can be found at farm supply stores, everything except the hardhat/strap winder can be found at Wal-Mart and similar stores.
The strap winder you can buy at many truck stops. It is not a critical piece of equipment, just a real handy one.
