Default Driver Training - Teamster Version

It's my understanding for most union companies under a Teamster contract, a wannabe driver starts with 'em working the dock, on the casual board. Which means you have to wait for the call to come to work. After a few months or years gaining seniority, you may get to the point to be considered for a driver position.
On the other hand, check with you local junior college, commercial driving school, or a company with their own driver training program and you could have your CDL and be a first seat driver in a few weeks, at a minimum. BOL

As with ANY union, you start at the very bottom, put up with all kinds of crap, and someday you will get your shot.

Azzkissing goes a real long way in a union, it's almost mandatory.

Azzkissing the right person like the shop stuart. You can piss off the CO. but not the shop stuart. I know this first hand.

At my company, azzkissing is not needed due to heavy unionization. You bid on lanes based on how long you have been working at the company, simple enough.

As you accumlate more seniority you bid on lanes that met your lifestyle and desired time on the road, it's a refreshingly simple concept and I wouldn't want it any other way.

You can shmooze with whoever you want, play poker with the terminal manager, whatever, but if I have been working longer than someone else, I pick my job before them.

Clean,clear,concise and no favorites played.
