There is also a middle school in Alexandria, VA named after him. I was on a DDG in Yokosuka when the FRANCIS HAMMOND was there. I was also on the BOWEN, a KNOX class frigate like the HAMMOND.

i made the best of my time in yokosuka,9 months in drydock.had girl in town and rode all over on trains.did another 18 months in diego on pigeon asr21.some of those frigates were anchored in bremerton for a long time but they scrapped them.knox was first thing you saw arriving in bremerton.type in your ship name and they got blogs with some of those people on them.

glad to hear about the school.from reading the plaque it said he got hit bad,but adrenaline kicked in and he kept fighting and treating casualties and saved a lot of people before he died.
