Well I am through half of my training, gone through two trainers. My second trainer was a true role model of what a trainer should be, but my first was an example of what not to be as a trucker.

My first trainer has only been OTR and with Werner for a amazing 6 months. He had several speeding violations, I don't know how he kept his job. He was the self proclaimed "master of U-turns". This comming on the heels of two Werner drivers killing a Walmart truck driver and a 16 year old girl in the past month in separate U-turn incedents. He lost traction on the truck from driving too fast on wet roads on several occasions. I almost bailed out of the truck once. He had an obsession with the bathroom. We stopped a lot, and it took him a lot longer than any male should take to take a piss. On top of this, we were late for almost every load. I was taken off his truck because he got suspended for a week for multiple log violations in the past six months. I couldn't get any hours with him because he kept taking me out of the seat. I told him I needed the hours so I could learn, and finish training to get on my own so I can pay my bills. His responce was "well, it's not allways gravy money so I don't understand why you want more than $300 a week". He was also a liberal, socialists. You know, the type where anyone who makes a profit is evil. He started telling me of how I should think about certian subjects.... so I asked him why he wasn't as successfull as people with a different political agenda and he said it was because he was discriminated on throught his life. BS, he can't get anything right. Werner needs to fire him, not have him teaching other students.

sorry to hear about the bad trainer. When i started with Werner years ago I had two trainers that were great both had over 10 years of driving and never go in the driver seat unless i was out of hours

I have a friend that has only been driving for 4 months (summer months) and he is noww a trainer. Someone who has never drove in the snow is a trainer telling someone how to drive. How stupid can someone be. Werner I never will trust there drivers untill proven diffrent.

you should at least have driving experience in four seasons and all 48 states Canada crossings and delivering to Mexico before the let you be a trainer at Werner

I agree totally. I have been driving for 1 year now and I dont feel I am ready to become a trainer. I think there should be atleast a min of 2 years OTR. Thats just me though.

this has been said many times on the forum but you cant get rid of bad trainers unless you report them and stop putting up with the crap

True, but the experienced drivers are not volunteering to be trainers. So companies are lowering the requirements because they are desperate for trainers.

I am a non smoker, but when PTO is over, I will ask about Robert Lewis. This is my second career, and I know I need to learn from those how have "been there and done that". One reason I went with Werner instead of another company was that many of them after a few weeks, they team you with a student. What I am not getting paid for, I want in experience and skills. I was told at orientation that to be a trainer, we had to be in for at least six months, and have a good record. This trainer did not have that, and yet was allowed to be a trainer. AA at work is what I think.

Overall, I have enjoyed my experience. I have gotten to see a lot. Lots of scenery and it is different. I saw four major accidents, two involved Swift trucks, the other two I could not identify the trucks, but one was white, but it had been on fire.
