Federal law, no traffic school for CDL drivers. This sucks cause you can get a ticket in your personal car, not a truck and still suffer due to it.

Is this law new? I remember he got a ticket around 3 or 4 years ago and was eligible to go to traffic school - which he did. :?

Makes sense. The two times I got speeding tickets I deserved them. The first time, deliberately speeding, the second: not paying attention. Regardless, a professional driver has more responsibility and shouldn't be allowed to get out of it so easily.

Does anyone know anything about possible plea-bargain options for CDL holders??

I know that traffic school is not an option, did not know that this was a federal mandate.

So, with that option closed, would the driver who got the ticket be able to plead guilty to another charge (such as Failure To Appear), pay the fine and perhaps court costs, and avoid having the offense go on his driving record??

I know that here in CA an FTA will automatically result in a license suspension...even short term, it breaks the "continuously licensed" requirement for most insurance.

Thanks to all the above for your responses. Yes sir...here in CA, CVC 42005(c) prohibits the "masking" of any violation that would normally be covered by traffic school. Here in CA, the law was effective 9/20/05.

Here in Texas, it was quite common for a driver to plea-bargain for FTA; it was made with the understanding that the driver would not appear in court. The state, counties and/or municipalities got their money, the offense was not entered on a drivers record, and everyone was relatively happy.

I thought I heard somewhere someone who has a CDL cant go through traffic school to have a traffic ticket removed from thier driving record. Thought Bozo had a discussion on his show one day about that but I have been wrong in the past
