HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT TRUCKING AWHILE AND HAVE FINALLY CHOSEN SCHNEIDER. I START SCHOOL JAN 20th IN CHARLOTTE N.C. I DONT KNOW IF I WILL LIKE IT OR NOT BUT THE ONE THING I KNOW NOW IS I HATE MY OLD JOB, THATS A FACT. I LIKE TO BE ALONE, I'VE BEEN MARRIED 18 YEARS AND BEING AWAY FROM HOME IS NO PROBLEM (WIFE NEEDS A BREAK). I HAVE BEEN READING THESE MESSAGE BOARDS AND TO TELL THE TRUTH THEY BOTHER ME SOMEWHAT. I KNOW NOT EVERYONE WHO DRIVES BLOGS OR IS A MEMBER OF THESE WEBSITES BUT THE MAJORITY OF THE OPINIONS IS DONT DO IT. I READ THIS BLOG FROM A GUY WHO WORKED FOR SCHNEIDER FOR A YEAR AND HE SAYS THEY WANT YOU TO QUIT IN A YEAR OR THEY WILL FIRE YOU, $$$ AND THAT THE PAY SUCKS NO MATTER WHAT THEY TELL YOU. THE BLOG IS VERY GOOD (http://www.paulcilwa.com/Trucking/) BUT IS HE RIGHT. I GUESS MY QUESTIONS ARE THIS CAN YOU MAKE A DECENT LIVING DRIVING A TRUCK FOR SCHNEIDER OR IN TRUCKING IN GENERAL AND ARE THEY WANTING ME TO QUIT IN A YEAR? SOMEBODY TELL THE FUC@#%* TRUTH. SORRY BUT I'M RUNNING OUT OF TIME AND PATIENCE. A GOOD READ....... web page

Total BS, why would a company hire you, put you thru training just to fire you in a year?? Total waste of their time. If they fire you in a year, they must have had good reason, not just because they felt like being jerks.
Pay will not be that great just starting out, expect between $35K-$40K your first year pulling a van. You CAN make a decent living driving a truck, it's up to you as the driver. You turn down load after load, forget making any money. If you want to run hard and take every load sent your way, you will make good money. Just do not come in expecting to make $60K your first year.

eptp88 I agree with Mr. Ford. I can't see a company putting all that time and money into training you and then firing after a year. I know a few drivers working for Schneiders, both company and O/O's. They enjoy working for them. How you do when you finally get out on the road will depend entirely on what you put into the job. The money is out there, for sure. No one ever starts out at the top of the payscale. A good decent living starting out is there for you. I'd recommend being a company driver for a company though till you know for sure if this is a job you want to continue doing. Less headaches and you'll have enough to deal with the first year. BOL

You don't know until you try it. I definitely wouldn't be making a decision based on what you read on this board, or any other. Some people that post here never have anything positive to say about any subject. Their life must totally suck to be so negative about everything. Others will give you their honest opinion, but that's their perspective. Quite frankly, I think you have to go out there and do it to see if your personality and temperment matches the lifestyle. There's an old saying that says something like... success breeds success and failure breeds failure. If you want to drive then go do it. Forget about all the negative crap some would like you to believe. Most of the time they just want you to sit on the pity potty with them. 90% of any job is attitude. Don't let others ruin yours and you'll do fine. If you find out you love the business but you're not sold on the company you work for, then move on. Pay your dues as a rookie, keep a good attitude, and create your own world.

i think a man with no young kids at home should go for it. its a dysfunctional lifestyle and some one who is single can build up enough cash where he could give two weeks notice when he is burned out and go anywhere.some drivers seem like they have worked for every company
