Default Need Help

Ok...I worked for Roehl, and got terminated today due to getting logs in late and threating a customer.

Let me start with the customer...
Im not naming them but I arrived at my appntmnt on time and sat on a live unload for 7 1/2 hrs..
I was fine with this being that Roehl would pay for detention.
I asked the Consg to put the in and out times on the BOL becasue its Roehls policy to do so.
The Consgignee got huffy and said well we are NOT gfoing to pay this, which I said ok, you can take that up with Roehl.
This ha[[ened 2 1/2 weeks ago, well today I get pulled into the office and got told that he complained I threatend him...now Im terminated.
I swear to any of you who read this I DID NOT threaten them.

What do I do, where do I go??
I have to take care of my Family!
Now this is on my refferance and Im stuck with it.
The logs I should have known, but the threatining is outrageous.
I am not that type of person and KNOW the authority level.

I need to find work or else my family is going to suffer.
Can anyone help with advice?
TY

So Roehl didn't even care to hear your side of the story? Do they know there are 2 sides to every story? If this is truly the case I'd say your lame dismissal is testament to how poorly Roehl stands behind their drivers and would be a red flag to anyone even considering going to work for that company.

Did you contact their human resources dept and explain your case to them? Tell them your situation, your family issues and what actually happened with their cementhead customer.

Another question I'd have is if this customer does this frequently with other Roehl drivers who've sat around for 8 hours getting unloaded and had to get an in/out time signed? Did he do it for them and not you because he doesn't like redheads, or what? Other drivers have the same problem with this customer and if so what was the recourse? Does Roehl fire every driver who delivers to this customer? Did Roehl just send this guy a huge detention bill and you happened to be the first driver to deliver to them after he got the bill so he had an attitude? These are questions I'd ask the human resources dept personnal to find out for you and what can they do to help you keep your job.

I personally think it stinks what they did to you and didn't support you and hear your side of the story if that truly is the case.

Best of luck.

I'm afraid you got tripped up by one of the industries dirty little secrets. Carriers tell you they will pay detention if you get your in and out times documented. There isn't a shipper or receiver in the world that will document them for you. In essence detention pay is a fraud.

As for losing your job, that is rough. I would suggest (and being me, I always do) looking into smaller fleets. You do have the experience undr your belt, Roehl can't deny that. So you need to find someone who is more likely to understand how the internal politics of a large company can hurt the driver. A small fleet is where you will find that. Mind you, the benefits are usually much worse at a small outfit. On the other hand, the wages are often much better (especially if you can get hooked up on a good percentage deal.)

well Im surprised too...I thought Roehl would stand behind me but they didnt.
Im not concerning myself with going back to them...I feel too betrayed to do so.
What I am concerned about now is my DAC report.
How do I get this off of it if its even on there?
Is there a wisconsin number for me to dial?...they said they dont know what goes on my DAC report or whats on there which sounded fishy to me.
They said apply a few places and see what happens.
Merry Xmas and happy new year from Roehl I guess.
I really liked them up to the [pint where I started losing miles and then this.

That would be fishy. What goes on your DAC is what THEY put on it. And BTW they get paid by DAC to make the reports.

I'm in agreement with DesertRat. Find a small fleet or go local and get away from the big fleets. Might not have all the benefits and maybe not as new of truck but normally at's a more relaxed operations. You might also look at containers pulling. I made about the same as OTR and was home almost every night.

While it is true that there are two sides to every story, keep in mind guys, this is only one of them here as well.

TKR - I'm not saying that you're lying, far from it so please don't take that comment as an attack - I know how stiff Roehl can be at times, and one miscommunication up there can explode into a messy deal in the blink of an eye.

Roehl does report to DAC, but it often takes a long time for the report to hit - I had trouble getting them to verify my employment three months after the fact even, and generally carry around my first and last logbook to prove employment when going to a new carrier.

The DAC deal, it all depends on what they say. If they state it was because you threatened a customer, that's going to follow you and make it harder to get on with a good number of companies. Also, it depends on who you asked at the terminal as to whether they have an idea as to what's going to be reported. I'd personally make it a point to go visit with HR if at all possible and calmly sit down and talk with them.

Your first mistake was not getting your logs turned in on time.

Your second mistake was in not calling Rhoel, and advising them of what was happening, and having someone in management handle the situation.

If your driving record is good, and you are, in fact, giving us the straoght scoop, then I think that other companies will probably hire you. It may not be exactly what you want, but it should be enough to get you back into the game.

Please understand that I'm not implying that you are not being completely truthful; I am saying that if there is more of a back story, it will be much harder to offer help.
