At your age you need to look for a job before spending money on CDL school. The driver job openings for people under 21 (and often times under 23-25) are slim.

You might try talking to soda (Coke, Pepsi) distributers, garbage haulers, etc.

No OTR companies will touch a person under 21. You have to be at least 21 to operate interstate. Intrastate it varies a bit from state to state. Most allow this at 18.

You can still get a Class A CDL, you then can work Class B driving jobs around town and in your state, Class B driving jobs are like local straight trucks (van or flatbed) doing deliveries , then after that you turn 21 or later than that get on with a large company and get sent out with a trainer and go solo down the OTR Highway when your ready, but getting the CDL now is okay if you really want to drive 3 years from now... if not try another career before you spend all that money..

Only partially true. Many trucking companies want you to be a *recent* graduate of a CDL school to touch you. Letting two to three years lapse between is asking to be sent to refresher school even before going out with a trainer. Basically it ends up leaving you to go to CDL school twice for the same result. You'd be better to get your Class B, and then later on upgrading to a Class A once you're 21.

The answer to that question may have to do with where you live. CFI or Melton are excellent operations if you live within their hiring areas.

At your age, I sure as hell wouldn't be in any hurry to truck. Stay home, have a life, and get laid. Leave the pickle parks, grocery warehouses, and sittin' at the dock of the bay for free to the diehards. Pick yourself up some kind of eduction/skilled trade: heavy equipment operator, boilermaker, pipefitter, diesel mech, to name but a few. I've got a buddy who did a 2-year stint/internship at a local community college and now works for the gas company making $28.00/hr, overtime after 8, home everynight, top-flite bennies, etc.

Don't worry, trucking will always be there to fall back on if nothing else pans out.
