.243 Winchester;

To answer your question in more concise terms, let me say this.

You initiated this thread with the question "Am I Crazy??"

If you are serious about embarking on a career in trucking, then for your own sake, let us hope that you are crazy, at least to some degree.

If you are not at least a little bit crazy, then your prospects for success in this industry will be quite limited!!

Go to your states employment agency and see if you qualify for WIA,work force investment act.
Go to an accredited school of at least 160 hours, cost usually 4 k.
Call Falcon trucking and drive flatbed for them.
They pay back schooling at 100 per month.
They train you for two weeks then you are out with a trainer for 4 weeks.
Take advantage of ALL your training and don't be a goof off, even if much of your training is repeat. You are going to do a safety sensitive job and need all the training you can get to keep you and every one else safe out there.
You will make 40 to 50 the first year if you are willing to work and not be lazy and set on your azz , complaining.
Make the most of your time while you are out there and Falcon gets you home every weekend if you want.
Don't take training and safety lightly, you might run into one of my family members if you are a jerk , then I would have to put you 6 feet under.
Good Luck and God Bless.

CFI does have a trainee program at Crowder College in Neosho MO .
They even have a skid pad out there .

That is NOT a CFI training program. It is one of a few schools CFI directly hires from and their program consists of the student paying $1,000 and CFI picks up the rest of the tab. The nice thing about the program is that there is NO contract to sign. Pull your first load and that is it.

Hey all, thanks for the replys, I appreciate them.

Tomorrow I'm going to drive across the bay and check out Hayward Truck Driving School. I have no idea what to look for but I'm hoping to find a clean place with people who speak English at a reasonably high level. I'll post what I find.

I filled out an online application here on Friday. Allegedly it went to a dozen companies. To date I've heard from three, Covenant, CRST and some guy from TMC whose website has music.

Saying I hate music on websites would be a little strong, but loathe is a good fit.

I was kind of hoping to hear from Schneider, but I may have to call them.

Okay, enough late night rambling.
