Collecting From a Company

I started with a small company driving a couple of weeks ago. Then after driving for a week, the owner met me near his house and said that his company "had a dispute against their authority number". After that, he took the truck and left me stranded 3 hours away from home. He owes me over $1000 for the work I did and will not return my phone calls or e-mails. 2 questions: Is there any way to find out if he was telling the truth about this authority number thing? Also- anyway to collect my money? I have called 2 or 3 times a day since it happened, e-mailed and faxed him with no luck. I have a family with 2 kids under 2 and a wife and it is Christmas time. I need some answers. Please help me. By the way- I am looking for a job in Michigan if you know of any.

P.S. it might help if you have very large gun strip to your side. Like a .45 or .44 mag.

You will probably have to go through small claims court and sue him. This will take awhile and there still is no guarantee he will pay the money if the judgment is in your favor.

Call the feds first, because if he was engaged in interstate commerce, they will get on him, espicially if he meets minimum # of employee criteria. I had a company jack me once and within 24 hours I had a check, the SOB's paid me minimum wage for my hours, which was completely legal although i was owed 4 times as much. Harass the hell out him, I had a roofer try to burn me, and I called him all day and night, I even called his grandma at 3am, he paid me. Whatever you do don't get threatening or violent. I know it sucks and really creates anger, but it's not worth doing something that can get you in trouble, besides what comes around goes around and he'll get his azz served to him on a plate one day by somebody, rest assured.
I lived in kalamazoo area for 5 years, I know Arvco Container had thier own daycab trucks delivering boxes. More often than not, I had to go to Grand Rapids to find work, more opportunity up there, although I wasn't driving trucks at the time.

I would call him, (leave a message if he doesn't answer) and Tell him he has 24 hours to pay you what was agreed on or you will be calling the labor board. Plane and simple... been through this before ( tho not in trucking, and that shouldn't matter.)
Like criplecreek he ( my ex-employer ) tried to pay me substandard wages and none of my over time (after I gave him 24 hours). I took his check and gave him 2 more hours to come up with the rest. 30 minutes later he was at my door with the rest of the money. Not saying it's this easy every time, but it's worth a shot.... No one wants to be reported to the labor board. Not only will they have to pay you, but they will be fined. If he doesn't call back or show up with the money.... Follow through, CALL

I am sorry to say that you can contact the labor board, sue hime ect... but the sorry truth is that you will probably never see any money. I would just use all my energy in finding a new job asap. The time that you spend on trying to collect the money owe you will put you farther and farther behind. Best of luck
