Default Truck stop interviews

I have thought about going to a truck stop and talking to drivers about their thoughts of the companies they drive for, their thoughts on the industry, etc. However, I feel weird about walking into a truck stop and approaching strangers and asking them questions. I'm afraid of being thought a fool and getting thrown out on my ear!

I'd like to hear from those currently in the industry. If you were at a truck stop taking a break, how would you respond to some strange guy approaching you and asking if he could sit down and ask you a bunch of questions?

They would probably be more amenable to the interruption if I bought their lunch, huh?

I can tell you from personal experience because I have done exactly what you are wanting to do.

I would just go into the restaurant and sit at the counter. Order some coffee or food and just strike up a conversation with drivers.

After I explain to them that I am researching the industry as my second career, I find that they are very willing and open to chat.

Got some of the best info from doing that and find that drivers tend to enjoy talking about their profession.

I would then offer to pay for their meal or coffee as a thank you gesture for their time and even found more often than not that they want to pay for mine.

I would not mind answering questions but try to do it at the counter where drivers sit and just strike up a conversation

Thanks guys! I'll give it a try. The counter idea sounds a lot easier. I don't have a problem talking with people. I do have a problem with making myself look stupid!!! That's what I was worried about.

You can always wear lipstick and a short skirt. Knock on truck doors after dark, try to stick to the back row. I'm sure you will make alot of connections. Maybe some life long good buddies.

You can always try to strike up a conversation with the guy at the urinal next to the one you're using.

Make sure you look over the divider. Try to move just your head!
