We (wife and I) plan to team drive together. We are thinking we'd be best off going to a school, vs. company paid training. We are looking at Central Tech, but we're in Russia and their online application system is not working... so we might need to go with another school. We want to be signed up and ready to go once we get home (around 2/1).
So.. other than Central Tech... what schools are recommended out there? Location is not super important. We live in MN but hope to move west one of these days. Thanks!

Fox Valley Technical College is a lot closer to you (Appleton WI) and they are top notch.

Honestly you should just check local community colleges. They are the least corrupt, and have just as good training at a MUCH smaller price.
Bigger driving schools get paid under the table to push you to certain companies. You should make that decision yourself.

I sent an online app to central tech last week and I hadnt heard back from them by Monday so I called the 1800 number, they hadnt got it but said they had been having trouble with a server. I resent one Monday and they got it right away. You might try again if you are still interested or they can fax you one.

Southeast Technical Institue in Sioux Falls, SD is where I went. It's a six-week course. The first week is prepping for the written tests. The rest is driving including hauling a load across the state. The instructor has over 2 million miles without an accident. He can be a bit gruff at times, but you learn your stuff. If you can make SD your primary residence there's no limit to how many times you can test (assuming you need to re-test). In MN and IA you might have to wait six months to retest if you don't pass the first time. One of the guys in my class was from IA and he took a SD address to make sure he could take the SD driving test.
Oh, yeah, they limit class size to 8. We had six in our class. |
