I embark today on my new career, and later this afternoon I head South for orientation on Monday, and if all goes well, I begin training OTR for 6 weeks on Wednesday. I've seen other companies on these boards with training anywhere from 2-6 weeks but the company I've chosen is 6. Seems like a stretch, but I think it will be beneficial in the long run--pun intended--I also hope that I can get an opportunity to do the worst case scenario driving (Mountains & Snow) whilst I do have a trainer, so that I will not be so uncertain when that situation is at hand.
Thanks again to all, and wish me luck. I may not get back here too often because I don't yet have a laptop but I will try and keep you posted.

Best of luck to you. If you want to get on the Internet while on the road, there are some truck stops who have kiosks that have access. It can be a little prices. You pay by the minute. It costs about $12-15/hours, as I recall.

I wish you the best of luck!

I too have had similar thoughts of taking advantage of the driver trainer time during the winter to learn the mountain driving. I live in the North West and will be driving in snow and ice. I hope to have some experience under my belt so that next year, when I'm driving solo, I will have already experienced some of the worst driving conditions during the training period.

Keep us posted on your experiences.

Best of luck and do one thing just for me......learn how to hang iron (chains) while you have a trainer.
