a fee depends on the truckstop. most don't charge. usually just tell the fuel desk and they won't tow it, especially if you're just dropping the trailer and bobtailing somewhere. don't ever drop your trailer without finding out if it's okay, because they will tow it.

I park at my mothers house, lots of acerage.
If you have any truck repair shops in your area with a big lot, you can sometimes park in those places with permission, or for a few bucks. I have done this in the past, even have a key to the gate to this day. And if needed I am welcome to park there, but I was paying $100 a month for the privledge of parking there on a nightly basis.
Or, and I have done this in the past, find someone with a big lot or yard (farmer) that will acomodate your truck and trailer and pay a few bucks there to drop your trailer or park the whole rig.
And a truck stop works in a pinch, but I don't like to do that. Parking is hard enough to come by out here anymore.

Just remeber, no matter how safe you think it is, there's always someone who wants what's inside that trailer.

I am with you on that one. And I have done just that, a Best Buy, Lowes or Home Depot. Dropped my trailer, with permission, and bob tailed it over to a motel for the weekend or reset. I have never had anyone say no to date, and have stayed in some really nice places.
