Smile 30 years retired Cop - aspiration in becoming an accomplished Truck Driver

Hello,

I just recently retired after working 30 years as a Police Officer.

It has been about 5 months now; and I am bored of my daily routine day to day retired life.

Fortunately, I do have a reasonable pension. However, I have always had an interest in becoming a Truck Driver.

I am not committed to a mortgage - have no spouse or children.

I currently reside in Indianapolis.

I would like to receive advice and information from both new and experienced truckers on starting my second career in the field.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and for your responses.

Respectfully

Welcome to the forum and thankyou for your LEO service!

I just retired after 41 years and over 4 million miles in the trucking industry. I think you will enjoy trucking, but coming as former LEO, you are going to see just how regulated everything is. Things like probable cause for getting pulled over are non-existent. If you get pulled into the scale house for an inspection the discretion of the weighmaster is all that matters. You can point out that a grease stain on a wheel is not a cracked wheel but you'll still get written up for it.

Congrats on retiring! I can understand how life can feel slow after such a long career.
Trucking sounds like an exciting next step, and with your freedom, you can really explore it.

Chat with a few truckers, maybe take a short ride along, and get yourself a good truck navigation app, as it makes getting a feel for the lifestyle a lot easier.

Wishing you the best on this new adventure!
