Pre Pass is optional and not mandatory. The fee is charged (I believe) because the PrePass deal we have is an actual CONTRACT between the DRIVER (not TMC) and the PrePass authority. Without showing SOME money changing hands, a "contract" wouldn't really be a valid/legal contract.

That's just my IDEA and not fact.

However, driving in the Northeast I would pay ANYTHING for a EzPass/PrePass box. I breeze thru the tolls and most scales saving me time and aggravation. For only $2.50 a week, to me it seems a NON issue.

You are probably being charged for the "convenience" of not having to pull into every scale. Company drivers need to bear some costs of these conveniences. All company drivers also need to run the company truck in a safe, efficient, and profitable manner. If more company drivers knew how to operate in a safe, efficient and profitable manner, driver turnover would be a lot lower than what it is today. More drivers would be happier!
