Color blindness test
I am on the list to attend mavericks CDL school in Newport Arkansas.I have failed the dot test for color blindness in the military.I do not have any trouble distinguishing red,amber or green .My question is do they offer any alternative to the dot test at the maverick dot physical.Thanks

For what its worth my husband wanted to drive for the military too (heavy machinery) and was turned down due to "color deficiency". He had no trouble passing the local DOT screening to get his CDL though. Apparently they are less strict on what passes, and that was in TX

Color Vision Test
It's my experience the military's vision tests are way more stringent than a state's driver vision test. If in doubt, pay for your own DOT physical at an occupational health clinic, then you'll know. Cost should be between $40 and $80. BOL

yeah i failed that stupid polka dot test the military gives also. Had me worried too so i went and got my cdl physical first all they had me do was read the five little colored flags over the door of the examination room. no problem

I can understand why the military was so picky about being able to see all the different shades of a color,night vision goggles reading topo maps by redlight, wiring diagrams on electronics etc. But I am sure the color test i received was more than sufficient for driving a truck, they sure dont test for cars considering all the redlights i see being run.
The kicker is I worked in a printing company for three years on a 6 color offset press and had to match colors all the time, only problem I had was different shades of red some of them all looked the same to me could not pickup purple or yellow tinges. One benefit of my color deficiency is that I have great night vision, got tested for it and the optometrist thought I was cheating until he gave me the old polka dot test. He told me cats are completely colorblind and we know how well they see at night. |
