i spoke with a mail contract trucking company, and they told me that you had to have 2 years of tractor trailer experience. i asked about driving a straight truck and they told me i needed the 2 years of T/T/ experience. I heard these job pays over $20.00 an hour even for a sraight truck. if there are any mail drivers out here please let me know if this is true.

As of about 3 years ago the mail carriers around here were starting out at $19.76 per hour.
Now one thing with many, if not all the contracts, they were based on the average amount of time it took to get from point A to point B. So if it was figured at 9 hours that is all you would get paid even if it took you 10. Of course if you did it in 8 then you still got paid for 9. The runs were computed at something like 40-45 mph. Also, if need be, many of the carriers would pay for motels for you to take your break in if you were running solo.
