Schneider sounded good till they told me I'd get paid first time in 4 weeks...is this true with all schools that take students???

 

best to have ALL your bills paid up and in order before heading out..

it's tough but possible and may take some time. just make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

I agree with Heavenbound...have your ducks in a row. BUT, that's still a hard one to stomach. I've actually never heard of that one...holding your first check for 4 weeks.

 

If they only pay every 2weeks, your first check will be held and you'll be paid the next pay period for the first 2weeks you worked, sounds confusin huh? but thats how it works.

As I read it, it seemed to mean that you're not actually hired until you've completed the first two weeks which is classroom, CDL and company orientation. Once actually hired, you are paid every week but because of the payroll pocess, the checks take a full week to process.

 

holding a paycheck back for 4 weeks seems a little extreem. No, all companies dont pay they way. We pay weekly with no week held back at all. the first week after orientation you will get your first paycheck.

 

Who is "We." Are you hiring and do you provide CDL training?

I don't mean to be pushy, but I'm two months behind on cable and electric, so I'm a bit antsy.

 

A lot of all this depends on what you are doing with that company.

If you are attending CDL school and then going to OTJ training then 4 weeks is not that bad before you see a check and for the most part is pretty typical for that kind of setup.

3 weeks of school and then work your first paid week = 4weeks.

Other than that it would all depend on the companies paycycle. If they pay weekly and you are going straight to work then 4 weeks is out of the norm.

Two months behind on those bills might make it the wrong time to go into truck driving. With no experience, its going to be some time before you make any substancial money, so by the time you make any money, you might be 4 or 5 months in the hole on bills. In other words you might be digging yourself too deep to get out. I would think the best thing to do is get a regular non driving job for a couple months and get caught up on your bills and a little bit in savings and then go into driving. Or even better yet. Work that job until you have enough saved to pay for your own schooling and then start driving with no contract or loans holding you back. Talking to 100s of drivers a day, I cant count how many drivers I talk to under some sort of driver training contract that are only taking home about 200-300 a week. Im not at all trying to discourage you from getting into driving. Eventually you will make a pretty good living. Its just not a good industry to make good money fast. Its going to take time.

 

Four weeks is not extreme before the first "check"/direct deposit/ComCheck appears. HR doesn't move with the speed of light.
I started with JB, their school in Alexandria was four weeks long, didn't get first pay until after two weeks OTR with trainer.
I know of no of training company that pays trainees while they're sitting in the classroom. Now if you wanna go with an LTL company starting casual on the dock wanting to work your way into a driver position, it could be worse.
