One thing I found when I spent time in a stink bomb, is my sense of smell went on overload for awhile.
I was sensitive to foul odors and cleaning chemical odors, and those smells stood out more.
I think your body does react in ways, even on a subconscious level, to protect you.

Sometime after I quit smoking, the odor became very easy for me to detect.
I can pick up tobacco odors in something, that was simply just in a smokers home.
That's why you see people advertise if something was in a smoke-free home.

Throws off the dogs, too. ;) Supplementing your income, are you?

OK, JOSHUA... how about global thermonuclear war?

This game is like an IQ test. The trick to winning this game is to recognize patterns.
Oh goodie! I'm really good at I.Q. games!

I turned in stinkbomb #2 today and picked up a 2011 International with only 82,000 miles on it. It's a good truck. It's only got one tiny little issue. Can you guess what that tiny little issue is?
Not yet. Can you give me a clue?

I'm only going to give you one hint. It rhymes with spalinks, pinks, dinks, rinks, finks, minks, winks and kinks. Remember, it's an IQ test, you're supposed to pick up the pattern here.
Oh...oh.... I got it! All your clues end in "inks." So, obviously what you are hinting at is that your new truck DRINKS! That sux! I wouldn't trust a truck that had a drinking problem either!

I think you should get another one. Preferrably one that has fewer vices. Maybe one that just smokes.

Did I win?

There's no excuse for not keeping yourself clean. Especially since you get a free shower when you fuel up. I've never understood why some people don't take care of themselves. Nothing worse than body odor. Aught be a law against it.

So who's the genius trucker that first agreed to give his time away? It's only the most important thing any of us has and some dumb f*ck of a driver said "Sure, my time is worth nothing anyway, I'll be glad to hang out while my truck is being loaded and unloaded. If it takes more than 2 hours (which it never does somehow), then you can pay me a token wage, otherwise it's on the house because I'm every bit as stupid as I look". And you guys denigrate union workers. hahahahahahaha

I turned in my notice yesterday. I've had enough. Besides the fact that 3 stinking trucks in a row has got to be some kind of an omen, I've had my fill of not getting paid for work I do. Yesterday I did 288 miles at 38 cpm and worked a 12 hour day doing short hops. I could make more at a McDonalds. At least my first job paid $10/hr for unloading with a one hour minimum and the average stop took a half hour.

Wow, MichiganDriver, welcome to the trucking industry! I too have had my share of smelly trucks, smoking seams to be the worse thing I have experienced. no company should ever let anyone smoke in a truck, it ruins them for re-sale and no one wants to drive them. I agree with you on the pay scale, trucker have been getting ripped off for years, this is nothing new, the trucking industry has come up with scam after scam to cheat a driver out of pay. This is why I have had 7 jobs this year alone! When they rip me off, I move on to another company until I find the right one. Dont get discouraged, there are good paying jobs out there, you just need to find them. Think about this, they are predicting a huge shortage of drivers over the next year, thats good news for anyone that has a clean record, supply and demand will raise pay at most companies, I am already seeing it now.

the company I work for has a 4 week training period at a flat rate pay. After 2 days, i was sent out on my own with no more training, I was running 3300 to 3400 miles per week, so I bitched about it. I only received one week of training pay and then the next 3 weeks I was given more money, they realized that I was good and they did not want to lose me. I also drive a late model Peterbilt with a 275 wheelbase and a 53 car trailer that is attached 2 feet behind the fifth wheel, so making turns is very tight, not many people can handle a truck of this size, even I had a hard time getting used to her huge wheel base and longer wheel based trailer. My point is I like thi job very much, the tractor is georgous and all lighted up at night and the pay is pretty damn good too. So those dream jobs are out there, you just need to be patient.

Enough of my little rant, BTW I used to haul frozen fish too, very stinky indeed, we used fabric softener to cover up the smell and it worked quit well. I would try it in the next stink bom truck you get. I would also write a letter to Penske, I have driven many Penske trucks and none of them smelled, maybe that particular terminal has a problem that needs to be addressed. Good luck in your search for new work.

Well, I didn't think of it that way.

Could life be any stranger?

As you know, after 3 stinkbomb trucks in a row and getting a little testy over not getting paid for my time I quit my 2nd truck driving job. What I didn't mention is that something strange happened while I was quitting. I got re-hired as a load finder/communications facilitator/systems designer/dispatcher guy. My boss is essentially a warehouse guy who's been running straight trucks and is now getting into otr stuff. I'll be underworked and underpaid for awhile while he builds his company but I'm strangely optimistic. I'm hoping this is a good move.

I start tomorrow. I'm pumped. I'm more at home on keyboard and telephone than behind the wheel of a truck.
