Well maybe not you, but there are way too many truckers that could use a shower and hey, how about some clean clothes?

I started a new job last week. My new employer is expanding and just getting started delivering otr. So he rented a Penske truck for me.

To get to the point, the thing stunk so bad it made me nauseous. I tried but I couldn't trace the stink to any particular location, the whole think just stunk. I finished my week out with getting very little sleep, because it stunk too bad to sleep in.

So this week, after complaining (and flat out refusing to do another mile in the stinkbomb), Penske couldn't find a sleeper for me so I'm driving a day-cab and I'll pay for a motel out of my own pocket. But this freakin' truck smells almost as bad as the last one! I leave in the morning for Georgia, and tried some upholstery cleaner on the seats this afternoon and left the windows open for overnight.

Truckers, please take a shower once in awhile. Soap and water won't kill you. This is two late model trucks now with less than 200,000 miles on them that would bring tears to the eyes of anyone with a sense of smell.

Disgusted with this whole profession atm!!!


Edit: Btw, the sleeper had a brand new mattress that was wrapped in plastic. It wasn't the mattress that smelled, it was everything else.

That's a surprise to me that a rental truck would be allowed to go out with some serious funk in both of them. It could be like a few we had, the padding under the rubber floor would suck up water when washed out and the water left inside would start to mildew. We never figured it out until we had to pull the floor up and found it was the padding.

Try spraying it with some Fabreeze and make sure you pull out the cab air filter and clean/spray it or replace it.

I had slip seated for one of our drivers who was a chain smoker. I tried Fabreeze and every product I could find, and that cab still wreaked, no matter what I used. I scrubbed everything, and it still smelled, only now with the added cleaning product smell to boot.

We usually make 2 week OTR runs, and after I got back, I refused to accept another run in that rig. I had to toss my pillows because they still stunk, even after I washed them. The drivers truck sat, because no one else would drive it either, I guess.

Most of the time my chief complaint when I slip seated for another driver, was if they left the reefer dirty.
All the rental rigs I've taken have been okay.

LMAO!:lol2: This thread reminds me of the Sienfeld episode where the Valet with B.O. parked Jerry's car and no matter what he did, he couldn't get rid of the smell and anybody that got in the car had the smell on them also and he ended up giving the car away to Bum on the sidewalk.

I gave my two weeks notice this past friday for this same reason. Dust, dirt, grease, trash, smell, broken equipment. Slip seating ain't for me.

Are you still working your first trucking job? :smokin: As of 2 weeks ago, me neither. It was time to move on for many reasons, not the least of which is the troubled economy. I found out after we came out of the last recession just how close the company came to going under. I'm now the sole otr driver for what seems to be a really nice guy trying to expand his previously local business. I'm a sucker for underdogs and I'll do what I can to help him get it going (in exchange for a weekly paycheck of course :) )

The upholstery cleaner worked better than I thought it would. This morning the truck smelled mostly like cleaning chemicals. Not too bad though. But as I got farther south today though and the inside of the truck got warmer and warmer the body odor smell started coming back. Not too bad yet, but I might be breaking out secret weapon number 2 tomorrow. I bought 4 double-sized boxes of baking soda yesterday and I brought a large box with me to spread the stuff out in and try to maximize surface area. lol I'm obsessed!!!

So (since I'm driving a day-cab) I checked into a Motel 6 an hour ago. My room smelled like someone emptied a can of air freshener in it. At least the lady at the front desk was nice and let me switch rooms without making me go into the story of the stinkbomb trucks. :)

I'd forgotten about that! lol Yeah the odd thing was getting out of the truck and going into a store. You don't leave the smell behind. It's there with you and you can't tell if it's because it's deep in your sinuses or if the stink is coming off your clothes. So you self-consciously try and keep 3 or 4 feet between you and other people, especially women. :) Yup, a lot like that Seinfeld episode.

You should have stayed in the room, maybe the smell would have permeated you to where you would have made the truck start smelling better ;)
