It was in Mississippi. I don't recall too much about some of the other details. I think that if he had only shot him once that he might not have been charged. It was the other two that got him. At least, that is the way it was conveyed to me.

Most of the places I went to either wanted you to have a CB, or if none, check back every few hours in person.
I didn't mind the walk, unlike some of those clowns who remained glued to the seat.

Luckily when I drove with the Mc Big Boys, it was majorly drop-in, unhook, then hook back, or go somewhere else to restart my weekly routine.

Ah, repetition.

Some years back, in Indiana, there were a couple of Rambos going at it on the radio. Later, a Covenant driver stopped on the shoulder to wet down a tire. North American pulled up behind him, got out and went to the shoulder. Covenant got several shots pumped into him (he did survive), and North American got stopped by the PD about 50 miles farther east on the turnpike. It was noted that Covenant did not have anything to do with the argument on the CB. Didn't even know the argument had taken place.

So, not having a radio, or not being a part of it, may not be enough to keep you safe.

About 5 or 6 years ago, a KK Way driver was sleeping in his bunk, parked on a ramp along I-39 in WI. He was found shot to death in his sleeper. No leads.

I've heard guys tell someone else to "PULL IT OVER AND I'LL SHOW YOU". If you're ahead of that guy, and pull it over for any reason, you become a target. Whether you know about it or not. If you're listening to a pair of these Rambos, you know that you do not want to stop for any reason. As long as you're moving, you're a harder target to hit.

Exactly why I would make it an effort to never stop in an area that looks even remotely deserted.
T/S's and those little mom/pop shops like you would find along the 80 in NV.

Ever since that driver got shot in Indiana, whenever I'm considering a truck stop, I turn on the radio as I approach it. If there are a couple of Rambos going at it, I don't even slow down. I tend to park at a truck stop that has nothing going on, unless I'm delivering "next door" (or almost) the next morning.

We've got some locals here that are always jabbering on the radio. They are sitting at home on their big base radio, getting the drivers wound-up. It's a wonder none of them got plugged. I could just see it in the paper- about 10 trucks in front of a house.
A lot of guys sound "big" on that radio, but what if someone actually decided to see that person, in person. :hellno:

Nothing wrong with lurkin' and scannin' the channels like some sort of audio-voyeur!!

We got several like that around here too. What's funny is that they aren't very hard to find when they are actually in their car yapping on their big radio. Can't miss the big 8 ft whip on the roof and your needle getting pinned out when their near. As soon as they realize they've been spotted they go dead quiet and try to disappear in the traffic. I've messed with the one before, he did a complete 180 on the radio when he realized I was sitting right beside him and claimed that it wasn't him I was talking at. Dude is a nerd and thought he was a big bad Rambo because nobody could see him thru the radio.

Dad was telling of one back in the day at Southland Corp who would run his mouth on the radio 24-7, he got caught one night in a desolate area of highway running his mouth by the 3 trucks he was yapping at. He made it out alive, with bullet holes in the side of the truck as they did a drive-by on him. They paid attention to their needle since he wouldn't shut up and eventually tracked him down. Dad himself had one that kept yapping at everyone and bragging how nobody was going to find him so he would keep on yapping. Dad got on the radio and televised his location and truck info, guy freaked out when he realized Dad was right behind him the whole time, got off the highway and went silent.

Here is one I will never forget. I was stuck in the backup. The next day I couldn't believe what I read in the paper. I always had thoughts of pulling over and confronting people who cut me off, but this story will make you think twice.
