Well said Hobo. It's time like this where my faith in the political system is shaken. This president, who showed much promise, is now so out of touch with the very people who elected him to office.
I can't understand how he can support this project and shove it down our throats like he has to date. The American public do not want this and neither does the lawmakers who represent us. Much like the Iraq war, this president does whatever pleases and benefits himself over the public. I'm so disgusted with what's happening in this country. Today I changed my voter registration from republican to independent. I will no longer tow the party line and give my votes away. What angers me the most is the total apathy that a lot of posters here have shown towards this project. Anytime an American job is lost we should be concerned, no OUTRAGED! It's bad enough that most manufacturing has moved OUT of the country, but now we are letting those same low paid workers INTO our country. What a sad day it is that we are OK with low paid foreign workers being allowed to take our jobs. All so the ATA and the companies they represent can make more money at the costs of American livelyhoods. |

So basically he will veto and they will vote again on something that was not even close the first time because he is more then likely to stupid to let it go, and just waste more time/money on something instead of moving on. [quote] Yeah, this IS Bush we're talking about. Look no further than Iraq to see how much he won't listen to the American public or lawmakers. |

He didn't get that or did I hear the thing wrong and that want be the first time. Well maybe the Senate can make a few more dollars from big business. Civics 101.... Bush can veto the bill, but he would only reinforce his "image" by doing so. It was passed with a 70% majority. ANY Presidential veto can be overridend with a 2/3rds vote of Congress. Then..... he can veto AGAIN! But, Congress can override him PERMANENTLY with a SECOND vote of 2/3rds or more! Bush is gonna LOSE this one!! And, although it's hard to believe, it will be the FIRST veto of his that was overridden!! This is a clear indication that even his OWN party has finally abandoned him! (combined with the majority of Congress now owned by Dems as a result of the last election.) With a SLIM majority in the HOUSE and SENATE, the Dems could not override his vetoes in the past. (which explains why the Dems haven't forced an END to the War!) But, enough Republicans have "jumped ship" so that in SOME cases, he CAN be outvoted! He can VETO a bill twice, but can be outvoted for a THIRD time, and it becomes LAW.... OVER his desires!! This is "supposedly" how the American voice is heard... as the Representatives in Congress... when not lining their own pockets.... are supposedly there to represent the American People!! TIME is a commodity that the government has a surplus of! It helps them stay in power. American LIVES (lost in the war) are also a surplus to them, and they are of little concern to SOME of them! At the base of it.... the Republicans would NOT be voting with the Amercian opinion if it were not for the fact that they feared losing their jobs in the the next election. Our government is NOT "representative" of the American Public until it comes close to costing them their jobs. Until that point, they vote in favor of the "special interest groups" whose lobbyists are lining their pockets with GOLD!! This is why the "Republic" form of government is a failure, and the true DEMOCRACY, that this country WANTED to be founded on, is the only FAIR and JUST way of governing our people! While our "government" debates the legality of a "line item veto" power for the President..... we shoud be DEMANDING a Line Item Veto Power for the PEOPLE!!! It would cut BILLIONS from our budget, reduce rampant WASTE in government, and return the POWER to the people! Even the Conservatives would salivate over THIS idea! Yet, we continue to let American soldiers DIE to impose NOT a "Democratic" government in Iraq.... but the same CORRUPT form of "representative" government that we have today in America! You gotta LOVE the "American Experiment." But, I fear that in the long History of the World, like the Roman Empire, it will eventually FAIL! |
If this law gets passed, then the US will suffer because if we can't be trusted to hold up an agreement that WE AGREED TO, then how can we be trusted with anything else?

No problem Golfhobo I don't mind thanks for asking.

As for the REST of your argument..... google Tokyo Agreement!! America HAS in the recent past, and SHOULD (when necessary) withdraw from ANY "agreement" or Treaty that is not in the best interest of American Workers! BTW..... As a result of the Iraq War, America HAS lost ALL credibility with the entire World Community! What part of our "tarnished" reputation are you worried about?? Oh, and BTW..... Can you name me a country that has NOT broken a "treaty?" As a side note on American Politics.... we are one of a very FEW nations that change our leaders as often as we change our underwear!! I'm sure the rest of the World is USED to the fact that American "treaties" are only good for 4 to 8 years!! THIS little "ditty" in our Constitution, is possibly the most destructive "regulation" to both OUR COUNTRY.... AND the World! When compared to the DECADES that OTHER rulers have ruled their countries.... OUR SYSTEM must seem like a "Drive Thru" system of leadership! How, in the great name of GOD, are we supposed to LEAD the world, when we have no more than 8 years of leadership in our OWN country?? The WORLD looks to US for leadership, and we say.... "wait a minute, I gotta change the Constitutional Roll of toilet paper!!"  Our "Freedoms" have become our "Chains!" to PROTECT ourselves from the "tyranny" of a long lived KING, we have subjected ourselves to "Channel Surfing" in our Government!! Face it..... for ALL it's good intentions, the American form of Government does not work!!! It has cost more lives and pain than it has protected! Now.... on a note in favor of it.... I SURE would have had to lead a Revolution if I were gonna be stuck with Dubya for more than 8 years!!! |
