Default tipping shower cleaners at ts

I was thinking about it today. How many drivers leave a buck or two for the shower cleaners.

I often ask for an extra towel, and that's when I'll tip, on occasion.
I also put my towels on the sink, so they don't have to pick them off the floor, and I won't leave a shaving mess.

…but in public restrooms, I'm usually kinda unfriendly, and I could go off like Francis, if anyone looks at me.

yeah, but that was a mistake Mitch.
One day she was cleaning my hair brush and was so grossed out, she left me.

I don't always leave a tip... but, sometimes I do. Seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when I do. I'm sure these people are making much less than me, so... I like to help them out. I gave the girl who cleans our dispatch office/ breakroom $30 last week to make her Christmas brighter... and to let her know she is appreciated. Who knows? That might have helped her buy her kids a Christmas present. She used to never look up when she was working. Now, she smiles everytime she sees me. I used my best Spanish.... "Feliz Navidad. Para su familia!" She looked shocked and answered me in English... "thank you." lol. Go figure!

I (we all) get free showers when we fuel. What does it hurt to leave a few bucks... or even a fiver? It's not like you're actually paying for the shower. But, it must give them a smile and a sense of pride in their jobs. And that, in turn, benefits us all!

Thank (your idea of) God... you are not in their shoes! Can't be a "rewarding" job! But, they are working to support their families! They must not have too many options. Be generous if/when you can. It will benefit YOU!

I tip when the shower is clean and well stocked. Also put my towels somewhere up off of the floor. I can't believe how some of these truck drivers act at truck stops. I often wonder if they go home and piss all over the floors and leave toilet paper and trash all over the floor. If you come out of the ****ter and I walk in and find you haven't bothered to flush, you're gonna be awfully embarrassed when I point it out to you.

i look at it this way:

First of all, i don't like the whole idea of tipping in general.

If the shower is clean, as it should be, then that is their job to begin with.

Now, if the person on-duty really went out of their way in terms of service towards me personally, then i might tip. For example, i forgot the name of the Petro right at the ohio/indiana line on I-70, but they let me shower for free when i moaned at the $12 dollar charge w/out diesel fill up. In that case, i might tip, but i didn't.

Bottom line---don't believe in it. i've only been tipped as a driver maybe three times out of the thousands of deliveries i've made and 1 out of the three was because the customer really didn't want to deal with me anymore that night.

Did you know the Ohio turmpike rest areas have free showers for truckers? And they're clean.

Default free showers

Ohio rest area showers are free, but don't forget to take your own towel! Also wanted to mention the trucker's lounge in Wendover, Nevada. They're free also, with towels, washcloth, and floor mat, plus a nice sized bottle of shower gel/shampoo! They also have several casino and buffet perks for drivers, and a free shuttle to 3 of the casinos!

As far as tipping goes, if is well deserved, then yes I will leave a buck or two. So many times, you can tell that whoever cleaned the shower was in a big hurry, or just plain lazy, merely passing a rag over part of it. I went on one a while back at a Pilot, and there was urine on the toilet! Needless to say, I immediately asked for a different shower! Or, if there are a lot of drivers waiting in front of me, but the line moves fast and still the shower is clean, then I will leave a tip. Basically, it just depends on the circumstances!
