I have to confess

I hate being disappointed, which is a challenge considering I'm surrounded by humans, their fatal flaw is being able to not live up to the standards they themselves set.

More to my point, I have this habit..... if you disappoint or hurt me, I just lower the bar, so I don't hate you so much. Then I wind up with very low low standards for people around me, expecting the worst most of the time. I'm only surprised when someone is kind or nice.

I have other things to confess, too bad I'm not Catholic it would feel great to unload.

For now its off to work, I agreed to work Sat..... WTF was I thinking????

I'm not sure but, sadly, I know what you mean on the standards. However, when that stuff happens, those folks tend to wander out of my life anyway. That tends to lead to lower standards, too. 'Tis a vicious cycle.
