Law Passed Banning Held Held Cell Phone Use by Commercial Drivers | Tammy Ensslin - JDSupra

How many of you have been made aware of this upcoming change to the law governing cell phone usage in commercial vehicles, it takes effect in less then two weeks and fines are quite stiff...
Ihad no idea about this until last week when we were told by our company no more hand held phones which include our in truck Nextel's...

Good thing I use a Bose Blutooth..

I know a couple of companies that dispatch their drivers via cell phone. I had a blue-tooth too, but it worked with a cell phone that could be used "hand-held" as well. But, it sounds to me as though the "Hand-Held" microphone for the CB could be next. I know there are CBs with blue-tooth, and it might be a good investment if you're going to use a CB.

Cobra is also selling a boom mic/headset for the CB now. I don't use the CB enough to worry about that, though. I've been using a bluetooth earbud for years now, anyway.

I read that the fine for drivers is $2,750 and $11,000 for the carrier. Fines are excessive to say the least. I don't see how carriers can be held responsible for drivers talking on their cell phones. I read about something else has the same fines, but don't recall the offense.
