This may not mean anything to yall, but just in case it does....
It's hot, and dry in north west Texas. It's dryer than a grasshopper on a hot grill! We've already had over 100 days of 100+ degree weather, and it's not even August yet. It doesn't look like we're going to get any rain anytime soon. I hate to see it happen, but we need a hurricane to hit the gulf. That's our only hope of any rain, before...Christmas. :hellno:
It would take me all day to search for how much rain we've had, but here's a ballpark figure. If you add up all the rain we've had in the last 12 months, I would say that we have had 6, maybe 8 inches. What's funny, is that we haven't had the thunderstorms that we normally have. We get most of our moisture from the spring storms, but we haven't had hardly any.
Every day, it's 104-108. We even had a 110 degree day. That's hot! Not to mention, the wind blows out of the southwest every day at about 30mph. It's just like an engine fan blowing on you. Even at 1:00-2:00 in the morning, it's still 85-90 degrees.
Farmers have their cotton planted, but that's for insurance (dry land that is). I don't see how a cactus could grow in that powder we have this year.
Here's my point..
Hopefully, this might be some advice.
If you come to Texas, bring a fiddle. Just kidding.
If you come to Texas, bring a lot of water. Especially, if you are from the northeast, or southeast; or anywhere that it's been nice, and where the grass is green. Especially, if you do flatbed work. I can just imagine being on top of a flatbed, working the tarps, chains, boomers, etc. Oof! :hellno:
Make sure you have plenty of water, or some type of liquid (not cokes, or what some call sodas) to keep you from getting dehydrated. Last thing you want is a heat stroke. Be careful. Make sure you have what you need to stay healthy and hydrated.
Some of yall might be thinking, well..duh!! He must thing we're stupid! No.. just not knowing, not being prepaired. We went to Fort Smith (AR) last weekend. I couldn't believe how pretty and green everything was. We cooked out, and it was so nice. I could actually feel the heat from the bbq grill. :hellno:
Yall be careful, if you have to work outside in Texas, and be safe. Make sure you prepare yourself if you work in 100+ degree weather.
