Flying bear kills two Canadians in freak accident - Yahoo! News

In 1995 myself and 3 fellow employees were dropping off of Snoqualmie Pass westbound, and saw a Geo Metro that passed us, hit a herd of Elk, just before the Denny Creek curve. By the time we got to the scene (2 minutes maybe) the driver of the Metro was dead....because the cow Elk that he had swept into the cab of the car, kicked him to death. :eek2: Gruesome sight.

Not a whole lot you can do even if you are paying attention except to pray you get lucky. Around here the deer can jump out on the backroads and you don't see them until you've hit them because the trees are grown out and so close to the road.

Two Canadians died instantly in a freak accident when a car hit a 440-pound (200-kg) black bear and sent the animal flying straight through the windshield of an oncoming vehicle, local media said Wednesday...
Not much you can do there. We had a similar one here a year or so ago. Car hit deer, deer went halfway through windshield of oncoming vehicle. Vehicle ended up in the ditch, occupants suffered some bad injuries but nothing life threatening. Something like that ever happens to me I'll be buying a lottery ticket right away.

I got hit by a deer years ago, too. I wasn't in a car at the time. I was standing several feet in front of another car that had hit a deer, surveying the damage. A car coming from the opposite direction hit another one, and that caught me at the shoulders. It's not hard to imagine that people in a car can be killed by something like that. I've got a pretty good scar where my head hit the pavement, and I spent a lot of time wearing one of those "horse collars" to support my head.

The other night, I was coming into Narrows, VA when I saw a deer, two, four, a herd of... COWS?!?!

BRAKE CHECK!!!

Boy, talk about a "You ain't gonna believe this $@*&" story to tell Safety.

I managed to slide through without putting a dent in my truck, and once I got on the other side, I saw a whole bunch of disco lights coming my way. Every county mountie and state trooper within dispatching distance was converging on that spot just a few moments after I had my little near miss.

Bizarre.
