It wasn't the UPS truck that decided he wanted a shorter trailer behind him was it? The one in Fort Gay, WV. got into it with a CSX Freight train.

No.... It was at JFK. Sorry guy's. After I posted it and realized the link wouldn't open I tried to delete it and I couldn't figure it out, so I'm sorry for the "fakeout". If you want to see it, it is on "theblaze.com" and probably other places too but that is just where I initially saw it. It was an Airbus 360 taxing and it's wing hit the tail of a smaller commuter plane waiting to get into it's terminal and it spins it 90 degrees. I've been around airplanes my whole life and hadn't seen anything like it. I couldn't believe it didn't rip off the tail of the smaller plane. I couldn't imagine being a passenger on the plane that got hit, not to mention how hard the Airbus pilots got on the brakes. Again, I apologize.

Ah yes, the Comair jet wasn't that small, it was carrying 62 plus a crew of 4. It is amazing it didn't snap the tail off, that plane is awful rigid and strong to take that hit like it did.

Here's video from the UK's Sky News on it:Air France Super Jumbo Wings Small Jet At JFK - Yahoo! News UK

I read a few Aircraft BB and the Airbus Cheerleaders are already saying that the Smaller plane should not have been there. AKA they think he should have been in the air even though he was landing there ahead of the A380 that was taking off. I stillthink the best visual was from Fox news that showed the A380 is 30% larger than a 747 and it was in 3D then the reporter went and they think this thing is SAFE on the ground.

The crew was probably busy going through their "before takeoff" checklist, getting directions from the tower, going through their flight plan and clearances, etc., Not to mention the radio traffic going on at JFK, plenty of distractions. You wouldn't believe what the pilots go through just to get ready to takeoff. I have about 1600hrs of flight time in C-5's. You ever see how big one of those are? 247' long, a wing span of 222', and the tail is 65' in the air and the cockpit is 30' up. It's amazing how much room one of those needs to get around. I just happened to have went to JFK once in one. We didn't taxi around the passenger terminals, but we were still around smaller cargo jets. The difference in a military plane and a commercial plane is that you have people other than the pilots, (scanners), that come up and watch out the side windows for the pilots while they are taxing around to make sure that just this very kind of thing doesn't happen. They don't make any turns or pass by anything without clarifying "clear left" or "clear right". I don't know the dimensions of an Airbus but I'm sure it's comparable.

Not that I'm trying to make excuses for the commuter plane or the Airbus, but it looks like they were stopped waiting to get to their gate and just didn't pull up far enough. The person doing the "marshalling" could have stopped him shorter than he should have, their is no telling. When your taxing around those places you tend to automatically assume that everybody is out of the way as long as you are on the taxi lines. As the saying goes, you can see what assuming will get you.

robertt, from what I heard the Airbus 380 (which this was) has a wider wingspan than the C-5. Don't remember exactly what they said, but it came out to be JUST short of a football field! They were talking about how not many airports could handle it because.... as you mentioned.... the "taxi lanes" and other tarmac markings were not made with that much extra clearance. This thing is huge! I don't know if the comair was supposed to be there or not, but I'm sure he thought he was out of the way. He didn't know such a huge plane was on it's way in!

Someone mentioned how this points out the importance of STAYING in your seat until cleared to be up and around!

I heard the cockpit audio and the Airbus pilots didn't even realize they had hit anything! I also heard that the Airbus can carry 800+ passengers! Man, if one of them goes down....
