Default Is it good for the middle class?

Anyone else remember when that used to be the litmus test for new legislation? Senators would step up to the microphone and say that their new bill was "good for the middle class because...", or "would strengthen the middle class by...", or "would result in a savings of x number of $ for the middle class", etc, etc. That used to be THE test for whether a piece of legislation was worthwhile or crap.

Today they talk about "good for business" or "good for wall street". May I translate that for you? What they mean is "good for the filthy rich". That's the way we do things now, if it's good for the rich, it's good for you (or at least you should acquire a taste for getting bent-over).

lol I swear I never thought I'd sound like and old fart but the way we used to do it was better. The middle class buys things! The middle class drives the economy! Our middle class was the envy of the world before we started looking like a third world nation.

Thanks for listening. I feel better now.

I think there is plenty of blame to go around. Our leaders have lied to us and they are easy to blame.

The middleclass has done their fair share of dragging this country down as well.
There are liars all around. The entitlements have gotten out of control, along with everything else, and we can find corruption even on the street level.

I remember JFK saying "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what, you can do for your country."

Naw.... none of us are that old!

Seriously.... I think I still have dreams about the old days! But, you must be talking about the 50's! By the 60's it was all about civil rights and giving minorities an equal "standing" in this country. Conservatives HATED that decade!

The 70's were the DISCO DAYS and most of us didn't even pay attention! The 80's were the real "awakening" for some of us. Then Clinton was elected and we all learned to play the SAX! :smokin:

The economy, and therefore the middle class, didn't really take that BIG "hit" until the Dubya administration, and we were distracted by the zeal to KILL everyone we even THOUGHT might be a terrorist or a "harborer" of one!

I'm sorry.... but, events have ensued at an alarming rate, and politics have been "divided" this way pretty much ever since civil rights and "title 9" came into being!

Politicians on BOTH sides are STILL claiming that their bill will help "the middle class," but most of them are lying!

Today they talk about "good for business" or "good for wall street". May I translate that for you? What they mean is "good for the filthy rich". That's the way we do things now, if it's good for the rich, it's good for you (or at least you should acquire a taste for getting bent-over).
Unfortunately, this is what we've COME to! Using terminology that shows our "obedience" to our RICH masters, so that they will release some of the TRILLIONS of dollars they have been sitting on while Americans were losing jobs, homes and healthcare.

I swear I never thought I'd sound like and old fart but the way we used to do it was better.
I've long ago embraced my "old fartedness!" But, I'm curious as to how decrepit you might actually BE. At times you sound older than me...other times, younger. But, I would guess about the same age as me.

The middle class buys things! The middle class drives the economy! Our middle class was the envy of the world before we started looking like a third world nation.
I strongly believe that "WE" are coming back! The rich have had their day (and I'm SURE they saved most of their "winnings" for a rainy day,) and the poor really HAVE no voice (and rarely the inspiration to protest.) It is the MIDDLE CLASS that is speaking out today across the nation. I believe our voice WILL BE HEARD!

Thanks for listening. I feel better now.
Who said we were listening?

Citizens United V. FEC has made our politicians beholden to Big Business. When a statesman like Peter Defasio could be defeated in the elections by the 'investment' of 2 hedgefund managers then we have a big problem. Defasio wanted to raise their taxes to the percentage that working people pay on thier wages. Now, corporatist politicians use the motto 'whats good for business is good for america', but that relies on the provenly failed idea of trickle down economics. Giving corporations breaks does nothing but redistribute wealth to them if they use that extra cash to build factories in CHINA.
Corporations are not people; buying elections is not 'free speech'! 1 man, 1 vote!

Time to take back our democracy! Heres a video i just found that talks about exactly this : http://front.moveon.org/how-to-take-...-corporations/

Someone asked an interesting question about corporate ownership. This prompted me to post this link to a very interesting article I just read about the financial meltdown. It's 5 pages, but they are short and full of ads!
