Default Music......and the passing of Gerry Rafferty

I'm really surprised not to find a thread on this topic.....I know the radio/CD player keeps me company in my patrol car.

With that being said, I grew up in the 70's and listen to almost anything except rap and extreme heavy metal. I love the harmonies from the 70's bands....CSN, Hall and Oates, Firefall, America....you get the picture.

I am really sad to hear about Gerry Rafferty, founder of Stealers Wheel, passing away on 1-4-11 at age 63. He is known for "Stuck in the Middle With You", "Baker Street" and "Right Down the Line". RIP Gerry. Take a listen:

RIP Gerry.

I can't sing, but I've been playing guitar since '64. I bring a guitar and gear with me in the truck.
The music I love most is guitar instrumentals, and my favorite guitarist is Joe Satriani. Here is a sweet ballad

Great Video Hog,

Another classic he plays on covering Neil, I know you posted this one once before, I think if we have one thing in common it is our taste in music..

YouTube - Grace Potter and Joe Satriani cover Cortez the Killer

He is a great player, I am going to see Grace in Orlando on March 6th maybe we will get lucky and Joe wil show up as well..

I love how everybody really got into the zone! in that song Wolf. ... and it's classic Neil Young.
Joe really had to spank his axe to claw his way up to where Gracie goes.

Carlos Santana is another favorite of mine, and I like this song with Michelle Branch.

Great Video as well, I think Carlos just got married to his drummer,

Here's a classic Neil Young that you never hear on the radio, unless it is the deep track channel on Sirius, This song takes me way back to my early high school days, my older brother turned me on to Nwil in 78 or so and all of my friends were into Queen, Van Halen, and the typicla teen rock of those days, my interest (thanks to my brother) range all over the table.

Another awesome female voice for those late nights withsomeone special..Natalie Merchant..

I could do this all day long , so much more enjoyable then talking politics

R.I.P Gerry..

Shawn Phillips,
great voice, plays very well and was completley under-rated by many, He can still hold the notes he hit back in the early 70's and wrote songs that have meaning to them..

Another amazing guitarist,
I saw this guy at Red Rocks in 1980 right before my senior year when it was still a General admission venue, we got there the night before and were still in the fifth row center stage, also saw Jake & Elwood play there that same summer, and many other bands that was most likely the best summer of my high school career, lots of parting and good music. The Dead would come to town every summer for 3 nights growing up in Evergreen we would always cruise the Chief Hosa camp ground during those days and enjoy the finer things in life or at least that what we thought in those days, Hog you got me reliving some good days..

That 1972 video COLT posted gave me flashbacks. :block:
I'm too sexy for my...bell bottoms...
too sexy for my mullet...
too sexy for my sideburns & fu mancho stash...

One of my favorite bands in the 70's was Heart.
I had a '70 Plymouth 'Cuda when the song Barracuda came out. ('77)
(big cam-383 magnum balanced and blueprinted, pistol-grip 4-speed, 373 posi)
I had a cassette deck with a power booster in that car. Big upgrade from my old 8-track...
but you could barely hear the music over the motor. :smokin:

Wow, Shawn Phillips...what a blast from the past. I heard him and immediately went out and bought the album even though it wasn't the hard rock that I loved in the 70s, he really touched me with the songs on that piece of vinyl. Thanks Timberwolf, great memories there.
