Laredo
Who else has been stuck in Laredo this weekend? I've been sitting at the J since Friday morning... This place looks like a bobtail convention.

Whats the weather like down there?
We has a hot day here in Minnesota yesterday with a lot of storms last night including 7 or 8 tornados. I was without power for about 7 hours. It was our first really bad storm this year.
About 10 years ago I sat in Laredo for 4 or 5 days over 7 pallets of microwave popcorn going to Mexico. It wasn't their fault, the people that scheduled the deliveries set up 5 stops for one each day. I got the first stop off a day early and the next 3 stops off on the first day they had scheduled so I got to Laredo almost 4 days early for the delivery and then had to sit because they wouldn't accept it early. It was going to a Bond facility for products going in and out of Mexico so they didn't have room to store things for 4 days.
It was around this time of year. The low temp at night was like 90 something and the high during the day was around 110 with one day at 113 according to the local radio station. I ended up deadheading over 200 miles to Edna for a load of plastic back to Minnesota.
Just before I left Minnesota on that trip my AC blower in the bunk quit working. I called the truck owner and he said they would fix it when I got back. I told him I wasn't going to wait so I went to the dealership and bought a new blower motor and installed it myself. I sure was glad I fixed it when I got there.

That place has been looking like a bobtail convention every since I've been driving. Even more so since they've opened up more trade with Mexico. And, if you're picking up a trailer that's been down in Mexico, make sure you check out all the lights and brakes. You might even find the gladhands missing. Look at tires too, because the ones it got there with (on the way south) might not be with it now. Also, BEWARE of the Mexican bobtails at the intersections. They do not seem to understand what a red light means. Excellent place to have a serious accident.

The weather is exactly like you said - 90 at night, 105+ during the day. My truck has ran nonstop for the last 54 hours now, and even with both a/c's turned all the way to cold, it's still barely tolerable in the cab.
As for the trailers, they go through our inspection bay before we hook to them. We also do a pti on them anyway.
Question about the gladhands: do they use the gladhand seals as currency in Mexico? I've never hooked to a trailer that still had them.

NO. No one in Mexico can make CHANGE for a gladhand seal! They are deposited in the National Bank as credit towards the purchase of bald tires, leaking airlines and blown lightbulbs! :lol2:

I think they believe the gladhand seals are what we call "rubbers" and they try to use them as protection while behind the shed with the donkey.
