Default Happy 4th of July 2010

I would like to wish everyone a happy 4th of July. I think some people have forgotten what this holiday is all about. It is the day we celebrate our independence from tyranny, over taxation and personal freedom. It is ironic that we find ourselves once again threatened by an overzealous government that wants to take away our freedoms, impose higher and higher taxes and control more and more of our lives.

This weekend I hope we can all spend time with our families and enjoy the holiday. It is also my hope that we remember our military who are responsible for defending our freedoms from those outside and inside our country. They sacrifice so much and many must be away from their families during this critical time in our country's history.

Happy 4th of July everyone. Thanks to all of our military, especially those who are serving in harms way. May you all be safe during this holiday.

I know I'll be enjoying it. I'm loading up the boat right now to head to a lake for the day with my wife and grandson. We're packing a lunch, but leaving the fireworks at home to use later tonight. I'm not scheduled to leave until Monday, so it should all be good.

Forgot to mention the absolute perfect weather here today: 87 degrees and sunny. No rain in the forecast until the middle of next week. Of course, that also means that the lake is going to be packed and my little 16' boat with a 25hp motor will get tossed around, but that just makes it more fun.

Was watching a few shows on the History Channel yesterday. Love those things. They had a 2hr show about George Washington, a 2hr show about how the states ended up with their physical shapes and a 2hr show about the war of 1812. The last one was the best because it went into great detail about the battle of Baltimore & Fort McHenry. Hearing the story about how the nation ended up with our song, The Star Spangled Banner, was very moving.

Same to you GMAN. I would also like to throw out there my well wishes for ALL of you "drivers" as well. You aren't "defending" a country directly with guns and planes, but indirectly "hauling" the stuff around to support our troops, not only in A-stan but around the world, no matter what type of commodity it is. Alot of you guys and gals are out for days, weeks, and in rare cases, months at a time. You have my TOTAL respect right along with the military. atriot:

I've done both and neither is easy.

If you ever get the chance Malaki, go to Fort Mchenry. It's a very moving experience. I was just there, for the second time, back in May. It was just as good as the first time. To be standing where soooo much history happened is......emotional. :usa:The boat ride out is pretty cool too, if you choose to go that way.

Of course, I had to work tonight..
One thing about working on Independence Day, is that I see the fireworks way off in the distance in the small towns. I guess that's the good thing about west Texas, nothing standing in the way. Some of those fireworks could have been from 30 miles away, who knows. Those are just as cool as sitting in town at the 'official" firework show.

This year is the first time in about 6 years that I've been home to see the fireworks. I usually see them from the highway as well.

I wonder what fireworks look like from an airplane. I be that'd look cool

I was driving through Shelby, NC Saturday evening and the people were lined up for several miles along the frontage road on the eastbound side.

I thought they had all just "turned out" to see ME...... then I heard the fireworks going off to my left.:lol:

A couple of years ago, I was in El Paso at the Petro (exit 37.) You could see fireworks going off all over town from that elevation. It was cool!

Those were gun shots, hobo.

I came through Victorville, CA several years ago and they were having a fireworks display. I wanted to stop, but with traffic I thought it best to continue driving. I could see it for miles.
