Do you mean that you are not being paid? Or do you mean that you are not making any money?

A standard day is 3 to 4 hours wait in the port and run like hell to make my appointment. Sometimes I get dispatched the day before wich is nice but when I do the appt is set in a way I don't make it back in time to pull a box out the next day. Also, are there any tricks to shorten the wait in the ports?

It seems that there is nearly always a line at these ports, either to get in or to load/unload. I do some business in some ports, but don't pull cans (containers) for the most part. The wait time can vary from one port to another. I think they could do a much better job of moving these trucks in and out, but when you deal with these unions you are at their mercy.

heh, i can see that, wich is why I'm probably looking to go OTR again soon. I'm not local so that's in my favor but not sure how the companies will look at my pulling a 53 van after pulling 40' cans lately

geeshock funny you say that.... i was hearing some guys coming out of charlottesville talking on 19 about not being happy about what was going on down there in the Hampton Road ports.. That's why Wyatt in Richmond is always hiring drivers based on what you just said!! And i believe you about flying like hell getting to your appointment times, if i had a dollar for everytime in the past 2 years a Can truck has blew my doors off coming out of the HR on 64 & 58 i would have a nice down payment on my Pete now lol..

But geeshock if you do go back over the road check out Cowan.. They looking hard and they might have some local down there.. If you have to go OTR, they guarantee every weekend off with 48 hours.. just look em up...
