POYNETTE, Wis. -- Big Jake might be taller than any other horse in the world, but his owner Jerry Gilbert describes him as a gentle giant. The 9-year-old Belgian gelding is the Guinness World Record-holder for world's tallest living horse at one quarter inch short of 6-feet, 11 inches. That's 2.75 inches taller than the previous record-holder, a Clydesdale from Texas named Remington. Gilbert and his family own Smokey Hollow Farm near Poynette, Wisconsin. He usually shows Big Jake as a draft horse in four-or six-horse hitches and he raises money for the Ronald McDonald House. Gilbert says Big Jake, who weighs about 2,600 pounds, is good with people and even likes to goof off. He says people are astonished when they see just how big he is

The DUKE would have been proud.

This is a (1988) photo of my ex-girlfriends thoroughbred/quarter colt. Thing that is cool about this memory is, this was the morning we first put a saddle on him.
I think he just liked her, because when I climbed aboard, it became a rodeo. :lol:



Anyway, we had him from a yearling, and showed him for a couple years before this saddle.
Our goal was to train him for cutting. We couldn't do the cutting training, so we took him to the best trainer in the area. The day we met this guy he had a pair of Belgium's. I wondered what he was doing with them, and he said training them to jump. I began to loose confidence in this guy...thought I met a rodeo clown that got stomped on the head too many times.

I came back when he was working with them, and he had them jumping at the same time.
I had to rub my eyes... (squeakie-squeakie) it was amazing to see such big horses get those one ton hooves more than 3" off the ground. I'm sure a seismologist was reading tremors when they both landed. The jolt cracked my back.

 

It has never mattered to me how big or how tall a horse is, as long as they work. A horse is worthless if it can't work.

6'11" is a tall horse, but I'm not sure if those record people don't get out more. I've seen some tall horses in my time. :lol:

 

I saw a pic of this horse last night. He is a whopper! Full grown man standing next to him doesn't come up to his muzzle (at a natural level for the horse.)

 

Did they add miracle grow to his grain??
A friend of mine used to have a huge Belgian; they tried to get him entered in the record books but he was a couple inches too short or something. Anyway, they called him "Ceasar" and he was massive, but as sweet as could be. We used to take him into the lake and all the neighborhood kids would climb all over him and dive off him, it was funny. They eventually had to sell him b/c they couldnt afford to feed him anymore, imagine that lol.

 

Neighbor back in WI had a holstein cow that was half again as tall as a normal cow. Don't think they tried to get it into the record books, but they said it gave nearly 20 gallons of milk at a milking. I never imagined any cow could grow to that size. No idea what it weighed, but it stood a lot taller than a grown man.

 

Guess you've never been to N. Michigan...and seen our local wimmin.
Now that they are all out of winter hibernation, you hear the screams of terror in the night again.
