CVSA Roadcheck June 8-10
This year’s CVSA Roadcheck inspection blitz will take place June 8-10 (not June 1-3 as had been widely reported). The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has posted the dates on its website, www.cvsa.org.
CVSA Director of Enforcement Programs Collin Mooney says the agency changed the timing because the original dates immediately followed Memorial Day weekend.
Mooney told Land Line Now’s Reed Black that having Roadcheck too close to Memorial Day weekend could have put local enforcement officers around the country into an overtime situation. That prompted CVSA officials to make the change.
CVSA teams with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and other agencies, including Transport Canada as well as the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation in Mexico, in the annual blitz that aims to crack down on non-compliant trucks and drivers.
During the 22nd Roadcheck event in June 2009, CMV enforcement performed a record 72,782 inspections, including more than 57,000 Level I inspections, on trucks and buses at 2,100 locations. Vehicle compliance rates during the 2009 event were about 80.4 percent, the highest rate since 1996. Driver compliance rates also set a record in 2009 at 95.7 percent.
The primary reasons cited by inspectors for placing vehicles and drivers out of service continue to be brakes and logbooks, respectively.
Last year, during 7,800 inspections in Canada, 97 percent of drivers earned a passing grade, up from 95 percent a year ago, while 82 percent of vehicles passed with a similar rate to 2008.
Mexico did not participate in Roadcheck in 2009 because of the swine flu, according to CVSA.

just before I left no-quality carriers. we got a memo saying that ANY violation during an inspection, including a marker light out would result in a mandatory 7 day suspension. they also passed out a lot of mis-information trying to scare everyone, things such as they told us that if you got any violation on your log book, that you would also get a speeding ticket. they are also propagating the rumor that 1000's will lose their cdl on the first day csa2010 is implemented. I guess that's what happens when you have a safety director who doesnt even know how to open the drivers door!!

I type this with my right hand as I polish the knuckles on my left . .

Day 1 of CVSA 2010 brought me a Level 1 at the 84 EB Boise scale. ISP had a full court press with at least 20 uniformed DOTs and their fleet of new GMC truck toys. There were a few repair jobs underway but, for the most part, it looked like the majority of drivers were getting out alive.

I also got the air drop test and, in the course of yanking off the lines, one of the grommets popped off and neither one of us saw it. Another guy waiting his turn pointed it out while I was hooking everything back up. Who ever put it in couldn't figure out how to do it, apparently and had cut away all the anchor flesh. Luckily, I had one spare left. Mr DOT patted me on the head and sent me on my way with my perfect 10s, resplendent in banana yellow, for tractor and trailer.

Stan . . is it the freight you haul or are you some kind of super ugly mother? My first level 1 was a little over 6 years ago and today was my second. I have had 1 level 2 roadside, 2 genuine 3s and a handful of various permit/log book checks and glances. Swift is in inspect status in WA and OR so I roll a lot of scales while I'm up here but I rarely get called in.

So far, I've been lucky, I guess. I came out of Canada into Detroit yesterday (the 8th) morning. I'm sitting in Glen Rose, AR now (the 9th) and have only seen 1 (yes, ONE) scale open on my side of the highway. When I got to that one, the PrePass beeped/flashed red, so I went in, along with every other truck. We then all were given the bypass lane to continue on our merry way.

If you're traveling east on I-30, they're inspecting HARD just before Little Rock. I think I even saw camping trailers setup for them. They have the big gas powered floodlights out, canopies, etc.

Am just north of San Antonio now. I again got beeped in, but got the bypass lane again.

Not bad for this 72-hour check - from Detroit to San Antonio and have only seen 2 weigh stations even open during that.
